Hi,

I have to draw several strip footings with trapezoidal cross sections. What would be the easiest way to achieve this?

...actually, I mislead you. Sorry. But, you do need a profile of the shape you need. Then you can use it in an in-place sweep.

Use in-place sweep, pick 3d edge of the bottom of the wall for path with a predefined profile.

Yes.

Open the existing Profile Family for "Slab Edge Thickened" and do a Save-As, naming it what you want. Modify it as necessary to make your trapezoidal cross-section shape. Save and load into your project. In 3D view, start an in-place component and choose Structural Foundations for it's category and name it. Then use the Sweep tool with Pick Lines to sketch the path by selecting the bottom edge of the wall. Close out of path sketch mode and select your Profile in the drop-down box. Adjust positioning as necessary and then close out of in-place editing completely. Voila! A strip footing appears! Select it to reveal Rebar tool on the contextual tab.

Hi barthbradley,

I'm struggling with your explanations but the only thing I managed to do is
a "save as" part in Profile family and now I'm a little bit lost.

Could you just upload a trapezoidal footing if it's not to much time
consuming? Than I could modify it!

It's not that it's too much trouble, it's  that I have no idea what size and shape you need. It's only a 2D profile, similar to OOTB "Slab Edge - Thickened" Profile. The modeling part is done in the project itself using the "In-Place Component" tool on the "Architectural" tab (under "Component" on the "Build" ribbon). Have you ever modeled a sweep extrusion? That's where you're going to use your Profile to define the cross-sectional size and shape of the sweep (e.g. your strip footing). 

 

 

...did your mother ever give you one of these as a kid? Same concept. Smiley Wink

See screencast.  I have included the steps to create the footing using a sketch-in-place profile and also using a profile family.  The profile family can be made parametric if you need to cover several sizes of the same shape, or simply create different profile families.

The only thing I'm missing is "material menu". It's simply not there in my Revit.
