Topo "disappearing" after split

I have a section of topography that I split into 2 pieces. After doing so, one piece disapears in that view and the other stays. The piece that disapears still shows in the 3D View, but I can't find it in any other view. I've turned on hidden objects, I've checked the Visibility/Graphics settings, I've checked the phasing, I've checked the Design Options, I've changed the material of the piece that disapeared (hey, you never know...) and I can't think of anything else to try! Anyone experience this? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I resolved this. It was the View Range Settings, while it still doesn't make sense to me (since the topo that remained was the same relative elevation) problem resolved
