Hi Everyone,

I am having an issue with opening a file. (revit 2016 file)

We have tried:

1. clear up all local folder/ temp folder/ check we have enough storage(100GB free), and nothing is open.

2. tried to roll back from the previous backup file. but getting the error (refer to 3rd image )

3. it opens in Revit 2017 without any error.

Does anyone had the same issue but came up with a solution?

Is there any way to open in Revit 2016?

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Please try the recommendations on this page to modify your virtual memory settings- click HERE

Whats is the file size that you are trying to open with Revit 2016?

Have you installed any add-ins recently?

  • Check if all updates are installed.
  • Is Revit 2016 the default program to open this file? If not, Please right click on the rvt file, choose Revit and check the box for "always use this program".

If you can send the file across, we can help troubleshoot.

Let me know if you have any questions.

@Viveka_CD

3GB Switch?  Aren't we passed that since 2016 is Windows 7 and up only?

If someone is running Revit 2017 on a Windows XP machine I would be totally amazed!

@Anonymous

The file may be corrupted... Try copying the file from its original location again.  https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Error-Attempted-to-access-filename-past-its-end.html

Sometimes renaming the file helps too.  If it is a central file....do not open by double clicking the file in explorer.  Open from Revit and choose the "detach from Central" option.  If that doesn't work click the Audit checkbox as well.

Hi @Viveka_CD ,

Sadly, I have done a project with this problem, also I try to fix it by your ways. However, it cannot effect for my condition, I used 2019.2.2. Do you have another solution? Some time, Revit's so crazy.

Thanks and best regard,

Hi @ThongPN

Sorry that this thread is mixed up, thanks for your alert.

Working in a Revit model involves interacting with many systems, and if anyone (or more) of those systems has slow performance, the entire experience in Revit can be slowed down.

Please see this article for potential solutions

Please let me know if this helps and if you have additional questions.
