There is a circular chain of references among the highlighted elements.
This error is happening when I am merely trying to change the material of the sash on this window.
Any idea why I keep getting this error that wont let me do it?
Hi @glkirk
1. Did you click on the "rectangle" button or the "..." button? Click on the "..." to change the material ![]()
2. Maybe that material from another parameter. Select you family, click to edit family and find that parameter and confirm if there´s a formula to calculate this material. (send me some pics inside the family, please)
can you upload the family for us to look at? you may have a nested family in it that has a parameter that is already being set by somthing else.

I get this error message from time to time. Do you have floor, column and wall join together? If yes, unjoin them. This should fix that circular error message.
I am gettng this error when trying to upgrade a Revil file from an Architect that is still using Revit 2018 to Revit 2019. I have Revit 2018 also and opened it successfully with audit checked. It opens just fine in R18. I get the circular chain of references error when I try to upgrade to 2019.
