The file {filename}.rvt cannot be opened. There are too many elements missing in it. Please contact Autodesk Support.

Project.rvt was made in Revit version 2017 and cannot open in Revit version 2018 or when trying to open a project with audit in 2017.

We tried to use help in link (below) but didn't work out solution.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

Also tried to diagnose/fix with Navisworks and  JornalFile, backUPfiles.

Please, can we send you file(.rvt) so you could try to find  what is causing this error ?

Do you have the latest updates for Revit 2017 (R2017.2.3)?

Are there Revit links in the file? Have they been moved to another location or have they changed since last opening the main file?

Is the project work-shared? Is there a back-up you can open?

Maybe there are problems in these linked file. Open them and check for any errors (i.e. unfound dwg links, general warnings) and save them.

Go back to the main file and try to open them in Revit 2107 with the audit function.

We wre able to resolve one of our problems with this method.
