Tensile windsail

Hello,

Trying to create a windsail tensile structure and struggling to get a refined control for the tension curve fits on the sides.

Added some voids to cut out the curved shape but while flexing the family to some extremes it fails to reproduce acceptable results.

Any ideas on how could I create the curved edges w/o using the Void?

Looks like you are in the Conceptual Modeling (Massing) environment?

Try using arcs or splines thru points to define the shape, then "create form", instead of trying to cut the curves out using voids.

I tried using arcs first but it just triangulates the whole thing. The goal is to have a smooth curved surface.

Thank video is useful, but I wanted to create an Adaptive Component that looks the same as the Mass family shown.

I can create the 3 RefLines through points and I get the shape I need. I am looking for ways on how to control it with the curved edges.

In the AC family, try using Reference Lines, with angular dimensions associated to them, and set parameters.

Shouldn't the edges be straight because of the tension force?  At least keep two opposite edges straight then the form will stay smooth.

@ToanDN, I do not think the edges will be straight due to the elasticity of the real fabric material.

Make it as a mass with 2 straight edges so that the surface is smooth.  Then place a roof by face and use vertical opening to cut the straight edges to curves.  Revit 2017 file attached.

you can create the sail using 3 splines.

• First find the mid-point of the sail (point halfway on red line.
• Create spline from midpoint edge - midpoint sail - midpoint edge (yellow line in the middle)
• Create sail using the 3 yellow splines
