Tagging Detail items Families inside other families

Hello, 

I am struggling since a few days without being successful. 

In families like Generic Models and Doors, I can add detail items families. 

Is it possible then to tag them once loaded in the main model? 

I am trying but it reading the generic model or door family even though detail items families loaded into the model that work perfectly for the a simple detail item loaded in the main model and not as a nested family.

so if i understand correct,  you have placed a detail item in the door family and want to tag that detail item after the door is placed in the project?

unfortunately, i don't think you can tag a detail item that has been nested in a family.

Yes exactly. 

This was the Idea. The detail item keeps some identity data and so I was trying to understand if then, in the main project, I can tag. 

So sad I cannot do it 😞

you could make a shared parameter in the door family and use the Associate Family Parameter option to associate it to a parameter in the Detail item. then edit the door tag to use that shared parameter.

To tag a nested family it's  shared property must be checked… However, Shared "Detail Item Families" cannot be used in 3D Families (Revit will not load it) => what you are trying to do is not possible

This works only when Detail Item Families "set as shared" are nested into another 2D...The workaround is to use either of the following:

1. associated shared parameters in the 3D Family as suggested above
2. Instead of a Detail Component, model whatever 2D detail you want to nest in a "Door Family" and set it as shared … this will load into the Host Door family and functions as required

You can load shared detail families in some 3d families, such as doors or generic model. 

I will try in any case the other solution of seeing if I can tag the junction information modelled as a 2D directly in the door family.

No not really...you cannot load A Shared Detail Component Family into a generic or door 3D Families. (you can load a detail item family BUT not when it is shared.

Any detailed components if you want them to be taggable in a 3D family, you have to model them in a 3D family and mark them as shared.

What are the reasons you are not nesting detail components in shared model component families, then nesting the shared model component families in the main model family?  That way the details show and you can still tag the nested model components in project.

Maybe because he was trying to cut it short from the child to the host and tag Detail items instead of tagging a Shared/Nested 3D family...
