Symbol sizes in Revit Legends

I am creating a Typical Symbol Legend to replace the old drafting view in our template. 

Everything is working great - all the tags / bubbles / symbols look wonderful, all is well, until I try to drop a door / window plan to add to their tags. They are HUMUNGOUS!

Is there any way to scale the door and window down - besides creating teeny-tiny families, and cluttering my Project Browser? I understand that the size of symbols is driven by the scale of the Legend, but would like a more elegant solution than linework.

Change the Legend view's scale to match your floor plans.

That's the problem - that messes up the size of the symbols.

All right - I take that back. What you mean is that I re-create the Legend, but to 1/8" scale. Gotcha!!

I faced the same problem, where my legend scale is 1:1 and added a lighting fixture which was enormous. Is there no way to scale down an element in a legend?

If I change the scale, all I've done in 1:1 just get really big/overlap..
