Survey Point and Linked Survey CAD File

I have linked a survey CAD file to a newly started Revit model using the below setting. Now, I have symbols of project base point and survey point overlapped in the model, which comes from the template, the survey point has nothing to do with the survey. So what should I do now?  I assume that I need to move the survey point to some point (0,0,0) in the linked survey file?  I was told to use "acquire coordinate", but once I did it, the survey point symbol disappeared, only project base point symbol was left. Is it because the survey point out of scope?

Manage > Reset Shared Coordinates doesn't work, now the it is always in upright orientation for model no matter it is project north or true north.

That doesn't sound correct. 

We get upright direction by setting up the project north.

What do you mean by "setting up" Project North.  Are you messing with Rotate Project North?

That is working exactly as intended.  When you reset coordinates everything is back to the same as you start a new model from scratch. 

 

Follow the steps and you will get it done in 5 minutes.  Correctly.

No you don't need to do that.  There is no need to mess with changing Project North manually.

You need to stop getting bread crumb information from the internet and follow the proven workflow by Autodesk.

 

And whoever made the 10-minute video for a one-minute task shouldn't be making video tutorials.

I assume there are different ways. I also saw video and blog on the workflow you mentioned. 

You confused me - Modify/ rotate is to change the project north manually. Just different manual way.

I never said rotate Project North.  Where did you get it from?

Sorry, I meant you said rotate the drawing, that is also manually rotate things.

Yes.  That is how you do it to make sure the building is upright because Rotate and Align tools in Revit are capable of referencing horizontal and vertical guides.  You don't want to enter an angle with 11 digits after 0 then it is still not the correct angle.

Just redid it following the steps you advised. I agree, this work flow is much easier and straight forward.

Now, I have both project north and true north in model. Insert upright North arrow when it is in true north orientation and it will stay true north orientation when change it to project north orientation.

I have linked the survey dwg into the Site Revit model following your workflow but the coordinates go wrong after acquiring coordinates. The coordinates in dwg are correct, UCS "world" set in dwg. The units in dwg file is meter and it shows meter in property panel in Revit.

I also tried to link the dwg with "origin - to Internal origin" Revit warned: "Imported objects located a large distance from the model might not display properly. The "Center-to-Center" option will be used." but the coordinates are correct! 

I don't quite understand. Do you know why?

How do you know the coordinates are "wrong" when you first tried? Can you share the file so we can test? Did you specify the units for linking to Meter?

To try again, you can use Reset Shared Coordinates and follow his steps again.

You need to use the Auto - Center to Center option because the file elements are too far from the WCS origin, thus the message that Revit is going to do that anyway. Also, I unclip the Survey Point before using Acquire Coordinates so it does not move far away from the project (select the Survey Point and click on the paper clip icon that appears). That makes it easier to keep the survey DWG within view. Otherwise using Zoom All will zoom out so far you probably won't be able to "see anything".
