Suggestion for Improvement in the Autodesk Revit "Environment" Tool

Dear Revit Team,

Currently, when working with environments that have different heights, such as double height ceilings, documenting these spaces in upper floor plans can present challenges, since the height of the room is uniformly applied throughout its entire length and may not be identified by the upper plan.

I propose adding the "Segment Division" functionality to the "Environment" tool. Just as this capability already exists in the sectional field of view, we believe that the possibility of dividing segments to define specific heights in different parts of the same environment would be extremely beneficial.

This functionality would allow users to adjust room height in a more granular manner, accurately reflecting height variations within a single space. In this way, when selecting the environment host in sections or elevations, it would be possible to determine different heights for different segments of the environment, optimizing documentation and ensuring more accurate representations.

I appreciate the attention given to this suggestion and believe that implementing this functionality would provide an even more robust and efficient experience for Autodesk Revit users.

Some things are not clear in your post. What is the "Environment" tool in Revit? What is an "environment host"?

Thank you for your observation and I apologize for the lack of clarification in my previous post. Allow me to specify in detail the functionality of the "Environment" tool in Revit.

The "Environment" tool in Revit is a feature located in the "Architecture" tab, under the "Environment and Area" category. It is generally accessed via the "RM" shortcut on the keyboard, which may vary depending on the user's personalized settings – check image 1, attached.

When using this tool, it is possible to define an area in plan and associate a sectional height with it, which is linked to the volume of the space. In many cases, when delimiting an environment, the design is for a completely closed space, with the same height throughout – check image 2, attached. However, environments do not always follow this pattern, especially when there are height variations in different parts of the space.

The difficulty observed in the environment tool lies in the difficulty of dealing with environments that have varying heights, such as a ceiling height that connects to a higher level. The tool does not allow segmented displacements with different heights, which can limit the accurate representation of complex environments – check images 3 and 4.

When I refer to the "Cut" tool in Revit, I mean that this tool has the possibility of "dividing segments", which is used to determine specific areas that I want to visualize in the view.

The same idea could be used for the environment tool, where it could divide the environment region into segments to reach different heights that exist in that space.

Ok, now I see that there is an issue with language here... your first image shows a tool called "Ambiente", which was an unfortunate translation of "Room". (Maybe the translator didn't want to use the word "Espacio" because there is another tool called "Space"). Then you translated "Ambiente" as "Environment". And then we got confused. So, from now on, please use the word "Room" instead of "Environment", and then we will understand your question much better.

If you want to stretch your rooms to an upper level, such as in your images 2 and 3, you need to enable Areas and Volumes. Then stretch the room in section. The room will be shown as you have described:

One question, how exactly did you adjust it to look like this?

Sorry if it seems confusing, but I enabled "Areas and Volumes", but I wanted to know about the other process of cropping and increasing the height only in the specific area.

Select the room and change the limit offset or change the upper limit to roof level and change the limit offset to 0.

@syman2000, note that in Medina's image the region of the environment has a different shape, like an "L". I exactly want to understand how to create this format without interfering with another region of another environment – as explained in the previous topics.

From a section view, select the room (turn on the "x" reference subcategory, if necessary) then stretch the height. Or change the room's properties.

Yes..this is where you have to add room separation line especially for level 2. Since the room on level 2 will interfere with the room below.

Once you cut through the building, the room will be separated by their own region
