Structure View Part 2

Micro Brewery Design Steel Frame 3D.jpgI am in the process of developing this but now that I have managed to get a 3D structural view ( as well as the complete building with walls, etc ) when I go into the structural plan views I think I must need to make some changes so I can see the beams.  Currently just the columns are showing on Street level, 1st floor, etc.  What is the best practise I should use to get the beams showing as well?  Would the beams that are in effect the roof of Street level be shown on Street level or should they be shown on 1st floor because they support the floor on level 1?  Not sure what settings I should be using - would it be the View Range and/or Underlay?

@Anonymous.  I believe view range will assist with your current needs.  Do you understand how the view range works?  A lot of people do not realize that in while in view range there is a "show" button in the lower left hand corner of the View Range Dialog box.  This should help you understand the view range a little better should that be the issue.  I believe what needs to happen is your Primary top range needs to be set higher in order to see the beams.  If the beams are say at 15' and view range is set to 12' you will only see the structural columns.  Hope this helps!

Thanks for that. But for whatever reason it isn't working. I have tried it at Street Level and had the Primary Range Top set to an offset much further up the building and it still doesn't show beams.  I can get the Level 1 to show the beams from below ( Street Level ) if I alter the Primary Range Bottom to Unlimited and View Depth to the same.

At a loss as to why!

It depends on the purpose of the drawings.  Architectural drawings tend to show the beams above in Reflected ceiling plans because they need to coordinate with other stuff under the beams.  Structural drawings usually show beams below in Floor plans because the beams support the floors. above it.

Which one are you after?

@Anonymous  Interesting!  Similar things have happened to me when dealing with structural steel.  Is your detail level set to fine?

You should work with the structural template, in which these things are already set up for you, in view templates and views, such as framing plans, etc.
