Stringers on plan view

Hello, Is there a way to show stringers for an assembled stair on a plan view, i have tried changing visibility settings for object styles: supports, but that does not seem to work. If i select the stringer with a click of the mouse, the stringer shows up but as soon as it gets deselected it goes away. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Sylvia p.s the image attached shows what happens when i select the stringer, i would like to be able to have the stringer shown on plan view at all times. I am using Revit 2016

hi you can try this go view > plan views > plan region > create boundary line to the area you want change view setting > go to properties > view range > edit and change value.  thanks

The issue happens with stringers set as carriage (open).

I have tried the plan region but that still does not work.

I understand you have a question on showing stair stringer in plan on an assembled stair with open carriage. Currently this is not possible but it may be addressed in a future release or Revit. In the meantime the only suggestions I have are to add detail lines in plan or cut a sections as this will display the stringer locations. I wish I could offer more but at the moment I cannot.

can be implemented in the future. I ended up using linework to show the stringers.

neat trick, i was hoping revit would have the capability to show an element that already

exist in the model without having to create a generic model for it, in this case a cut stringer.

I guess i will have to wait until they add the feature, in the meantime linework seems like the best way.

RDAOU, that is a neat idea. As I always say there are many way of tuning a cat into a dog in Revit....when necessary!

It's weirred that Carriage(open) supports functions like that only in plan view! in 3D and sections one can easily go to View>Graphics>Show Hidden Line clickx2 and the supports are shown hidden style...

@sbernstein I find that interesting!!! how did you manage with linework in plan view?! In Plan View the Carriage(open) supports are not visibile to select them using linework tool even with Display set to Wireframe

no big mystery, i basically created a line style called "stringers" gave it some thickness
so visually it looks better than just a line, then drafted a line with an offset to the wall
of about 3", so in plan view looks like this:

A trick for the moment until AutoDesk catches up to structural drafting 🙂

I see ... You said Linework so I assumed it was the Linework under Modify tab
