Standardizing Multiple models with different basepoints to one project.

Hi,

Lets say i have a project with 5 buildings. The 5 buildings have their own models with its own basepoints and survey points. 

When i link them to each other by shared coordinates they align to the right locations. Only when linked by shared coordinates.

I am starting a new project that includes these 5 models. 

What is the strategy for standardizing the project?

1. Do all the models need to have the same basepoint and survey points? They are linking in the right location when linked by shared coordinates. 
2. How do i make a master model that will link all the models in the right locations. 

Appreciate any help and inputs you guys can provide on this. 

I have added a rough image to visually show the different buildings with its own basepoints and the main model that i want to link all these models to.

I usually do this:
- Same Survey point to all models.

- Different Project Base point to each building.

What would be the basepoint for the master file that links all these buildings?

The master file would have the two points in the same place of the Survey point of the other models

I did see this video. It helps when im starting from scratch for all models. In my current situation i have multiple models already created which im further developing as a combined site. All these buildings have its own basepoint and survey points. However they link properly when linked by shared coordinates.

You don't really need to address any of this up front if modeling each project independently. That's the whole point of having the ability to Share Coordinates. When it comes time to Link each Project into a "Master" Project containing all of them, then you just position each Link relative to the other ones - and relative to the site -  and then record the Links Positions within the Master back to the Link Projects via PUBLISH Coordinates. Keep in mind, only the Survey Point ORIGIN is relevant here. Project Base Point doesn't come into play in this scenario.  If the Survey Point MARKER needs to be moved in the Link Project after Shared Coordinates are established, then make sure you UNCLIP it first.

FWIW: The very best explanation of Shared Coordinates I ever read was from Paul F. Aubin's "Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates".
