You need to sketch your profile first. Start a new family and use "Metric Profile.rft" and create your profile then save it with desired name and load it into your project. Next, select you stairs and click edit type, then follow below image and chose your custom profile.

Hi BIM dreamer,

If you want 3D modeling of the whole thing, you can!

Here it is: do as BIM consultant said for the threads. the profile will work.

Then, for the angle bar supports, here is what you need to do:

  1. create a generic model for the bar support
  2. create a baluster family
  3. load the bar support into the baluster family, place it properly
  4. load the baluster family into the project
  5. create a railing with one baluster per thread, using your baluster family.

It is pretty adavnced as a method, but you will not get any better result!

The only problem is that you might have to create two railings for your stairs at the same location in order to have the support bars AND a railing!

I will make a quick screencast for you if I have time today...

I believe this is the best approach of doing it. What problems did you face? What did you not like about it? Anything not clear?

Well, there are les "automated " solutions,

You could of course use detail items to detail your section cut (it will be view specific though), with an array duplication and good constraints, they will adapt to any change you make to your stairs.

Or you go 3D, and add generic models in 3D containing your detail elements under each thread, it will work but then the railing is more usefull...

Just pick the method that works best for you!

Personnaly I would go with BIM.consultant, I've been following him on the forum and he has a good vision of the software!

Cheers,

François
