Stair number doesn't show up

Hi Friends. I can't change the step numbers. I have attached the file for your review. Thank you for help.

after modelling a stair, the steps number will work only as a way to control the the height of the riser.

to change the actual steps number, after editing the step number, click on edit stair and drag the end of the stair to add more steps.
