Slow performance, server issues

We've recently had issues with the backup software on the server that hosts the licence manager (issues with the database) and this seems to have affected the performance of Revit on local PCs.

When we've had problems Revit has run very slowly generally, not just when trying to write to the server.  The issues have gone on for a number of hours only improving when we've restarted the server or cancelled the work on the backup software database.

Has anyone else ever suffered similar issues?  How is there such a strong link with the server that could affect performance?

Any thoughts?

Regards

is it just revit that is slow or are other programs affected when saving back to your server?

is this occurring on multiple workstations?

have you checked the read/write speeds of your network with packet testing?

is this occurring on just 1 particular revit model or any revit model?

is your hub/switch slow or old?

CAT 6 connections from workstations to server?

try to isolate the exact slowdown...this will help determine where to start looking
