Sloped multi-faced parametric skylight

Hi!

 

I'm having very tricky issue with modelling skyline as a revit family. So here's the deal - the skylight bends up from big rectangle to small rectangle, but I want small rectangle on the top to be on a different angle. And with mass, I can just grab the edge and move it vertically, although in family, you can't do it. So I tried dealing with making void on different angled plane. The thing is everything works perfectly parametric, but at the end, the void makes the top rectangle trapezoidical, which is not a goal. Does anyone have any idea how to model it? See pictures below

Looks like a flared skylight shaft.  Is that what you want to model?

First you want to create slope that will host the window. I use revolve and use the surface of that to be my host. Afterward you use the blend to create the shape to conform to the angle. See attached.

Hmm that's a good one, works pretty nice although solving it by angle, makes it hard to define exact height of high and low edges of the void (window). I was exploring with adaptive generic models and almost got it with the option of moving top rectangle back and forth too in 2d (in case you don't want it centered which I would like to have as an option). But I'm a bit struggling with making the cutout. Can you have a look?

You may want to add reference plane rather than using lines as your locking mechanism. If you don't do that, it will unconstrained themselves. See my sample as different approach.

Are you aware that the OOTB Revit Content Library has a fully parametric Pyramid-Truncated Vertical Mass located in the Mass Folder?

Looks like it works, but do you think it would be possible here to add parameters to move upper rectangle to have it not centered? See screenshot

Accepted solution

Just remove the EQ from length and width and add your dimension to flex it. This is the advantage having reference plane/line because you can easily remove and reassign your new parameter. As well I can easily add formula to have the parameter to the top to center if you want.
