Slab Edge & Thickened Slab

Hello All,

Today I am creating slab edges for thickened slab bearing.  I have created a family with various sizes and created slab edge types using my family profiles.

That all works, but, I have a few questions on "how to"

1) When creating a type, it is a system family & I want to delete a type that I don't want anymore - how do I get rid of it?

2) I may have created a new type in another project and want to put in my template, how is that done?

3) I want to lock the center of the thickened slab to a gridline, soi when the grid moves so does the thickened slab?  I made this work by creating a model line and locking it to the gridline, then I insert the slab edge to that, but the top of the thickened slab profile is at the top of the floor slab, which means I have to move it & then join it to the floor - is this correct way or.....?

This is where I'm at....I'm sure I'll think of something else....

Thanks in advance

1. Use the Purge Unused tool found on the Manage tab.

2. Use the Transfer Project Standards tool found on the Manage tab.

3. You could place your model lines on the bottom surface of the slab. Or, probably better, is to redo the profile to include the slab thickness.

Chris,

As always - thanks!

#1 - I forgot about purge....duh

#2 - Learned something new...

#3 - adding a slab thickness to the profile would be some work since the slab sizes are many (at least here where I work).  When I place the model line, it always finds the top of floor slab.  AND I notice that I'm having difficulties placing the slab edge at the edge in plan view, can do it in 3d view - not sure what this is about...(view range?)

in addition of what Chris said , you can also try:

  1. in Project Browser > Familes ( here you can find both Editable and System Families) > Floors > Slab Edge - click Right Button of the mouse and choose Delete
  2.  in the  project file that contains the desired family , select the Family item ( Editable or System Family ) > Clipboard Copy .  Paste item in your project file
  3. as Chris said , place the profile to the bottom place..and lock it to grid...

Constantin,

Thank you for the video & comments...

Again, I learned something new....Smiley Happy  I didn't think about looking at Family | Floors | Slab Edge.... since the profiles are in a family....

Now the only problem I have is I cannot select the edge of slab to place the slab edge - only in 3d?  I can't figure out where to look or what I changed....

I've been working on view templates while making slab edges.  I made sure that I used structural slab & structural slab edge, not knowing if that matters or not.

There is so much to learn.....
