Skylight Not Transmitting Light

I have a tubular skylight, but it is not transmitting light through.  You can see that the tube goes all the way through, but it will not show any light when I render the scene.

Can you send that to me?  I have done all of the exact same things that you have done and I get nothing like that at all.

Anthony: I just tested the velux sun tunnel you originally posted. It renders with sunlight through just fine. Not sure what the problem is, but family is fine.

You did not have to change any settings or anything?

I just popped it into an enclosed room and did a quickie interior rendering.

...maybe you messed with the family's glass material by accident. Check that.

...family has 2 material parameters for "Dome": try changing those to "Default Mass Skylight" for instance.

...with "Default Light Source" material, it works nicely too

You are not using any lighting groups which that lighting cannon isn't part of? Or switched off in your .rvt?

I changed those to the default mass skylight, and it did nothing.  I am just going to let it be and maybe nobody will mention anything.

No it is not turned off or anything.  I even tried cutting a hole in my roof and no light came through, but it comes through my windows in the exact same room.

Wow! Frustrating it must be for you. And it ain't even Friday yet! HA! Something very strange is going on. Have you tested in a different project?

...HOLD THE PHONE! Are you sure you're doing an INTERIOR rendering - not EXTERIOR?

Are you talking about the lighting scheme?

TO ALL: I bounce back and forth between 2016 and 2017, so I’m a little confused about something right now. Can someone please advise me?

Did the rendering engine option “NVIDIA mental ray” go away in 2017.2, or was it not there before I applied this update, and I just hadn’t noticed?

Currently, with 2017.2, I HAVE NO ENGINE OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM.

Update: It's not there in 2017. Funny, I hadn't noticed yet that Autodesk had taken it away from us. Gone also are a few key related controls that were only available through NVIDIA mental ray - like Daylight Portals that Toan mentioned.

That I am not sure about.  I did not do much rendering before the 2017.2 update came out.

@barthbradley

Mental Ray being a goner in 2017 has caused quite a bitching and moaning here but I guess you were too busy getting your avatar to show so you didn't notice 😉

With that said, I didn't mention Daylight Portals.  I think @RDAOU did so let's give proper credit to him.  As a matter of fact, I have never done a single Revit rendering since I started using it in 2013 so I don't know much about feature differences across versions.

Rendering is far, far , far easier than setting up an Avatar on this site. In fact, I think I'd prefer water-boarding over Avataring!
