Sketchy Lines Issues

Revit 2017 Architecture.

We are experiencing issues with sketchy lines in Revit.

It seems that when we have a brick line texture on a wall (or house in our case) and the sketchy lines function is activated, the result is large areas where the texture of the brick lines is lost. This then leaves a patch work of both brick line textures (in boxed areas) and blank sections (in boxed areas). We have tried to alter all the usual settings but to no avail.

This therefore means the great effect that sketchy lines delivers cannot be used with our designs with textures!

My question is what can be done to correct or overcome this persistent problem?

This may be a result of the amount of jitter applied to the surface patterns. When you apply sketchy lines to a view, long lines get more jitter than short lines. This can unfortunately result in uneven patterns for some parts of the element.

Does it help to reduce the value of the Jitter setting on the Graphic Display Options dialog, or turn off the surface patterns for the walls (right-click an element and click Override Graphics in View > by Element or by Category, expand Surface Patterns and clear the Visible check box)?

Can you please attach an image to clarify if I misunderstood the issue you are seeing?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

The issue we have is that we require the surface (material) pattern. We need to show brickwork! We also have tested out all the variables of the jitter and extension settings but to no avail.

To give an example, this should be a full brick elevation of a dwelling:

We also have tested out all the variables of the jitter and extension settings but to no avail, and in real terms we only need it to be minimal anyway.

To give an example, this should be a full brick elevation of a dwelling. Our only thought is the sketchy lines are sketchy in 3D and not just in 2D, hence loosing some lines behind the face of the objects?

Thanks for attaching the image. Can you please share this model with me?

Sorry I am not willing to share the model, but you can get the same effect by just creating a brick wall with the surface pattern of Horizontal 75mm lines.

Thanks, I will report it to see if we can do some improvements in this area.

We have a had a break through!

We have found that the issue is that the line patterns are jittering not only in 2D but in 3D also.

Therefore the patches of the wall which are clear (not showing any brick / lined pattern), are the areas where the jitter takes the line pattern behind the face of the material. As this face is in a Hidden Line option we loose the pattern.

If we then make the wall transparent, all the jittered (pattern) lines appear.

The solution therefore would be to only make jitter work in a 2D direction and not in 3D. Can this be done????

Regards

Gary

There is no setting to control/restrict jitter in a 2d plane.

Thanks for your reply, and yes we already know the settings are limited, so the question really is pointed towards Autodesk.

Can we turn off 3D jitter and keep 2D jitter as an option? Can this function be added to Revit and Sketchy lines!!!
