Site survey point is visible in every view template after upgrading to revit 2020

Hello!

We have upgraded a project from Revit 2018 to Revit 2020.2. One of the new features of that version was the ability to show site survey point for linked files. Unfortunately for some reason this became turned on by default for every view template where any of the linked files were set to Custom display. This is an element not visible in print, but for our project the survey point is a bit far from the plot and now every of our view zooms out small even when cropped and we are unable to work on it until we hide the survey point.

To put it in context this is a project with 117 Work in Progress files and the number of view templates are exceeding 5000.

I'm looking into any solution that would save the team from days of useless work.

Before we go into the discussion whether we needed to upgrade or not: We needed to upgrade and this is the bottom line.

Known issue. There a few threads out there. I think there is a Dynamo solution. Have a search around here.

for some reason they set to ON by default in the new version. Turn it off in Visibility Graphics Overrides (VG). it can also be turned doff in the View template.

Hello,

This is clear. We know how to turn it off. But how to turn it off for 5000 view templates? That is the question.

Revit API is not really open towards View Templates so dynamo here will not help.

Have the person that decided to upgrade do it. 5000 view templates? Someone should have said no to the upgrade.

On a side note. Why so many view templates?  Either that's an exaggeration or someone has created a model management nightmare.

This is again beside the topic. 500-5000-10000 view templates doesn't matter. Also in many cases you are not the one dictating whether to upgrade or not, I specifically mentioned not to jump on it in my original post.

Please if you don't have anything supportive to add to the topic just leave it read only.

unfortunately, at this point, manually…. when I was upgrading our templates, I made a test file and one of the interns do it 🙂 (evil, I know...).  once they were done upgrading the VT's I imported them into the template. Same could be done with a project, find the lowest paid drafter/designer and have them spend a day or so updating all the VT's in the project.

This doesn't sound like you said not to jump on it and, frankly, I don't care. Why should these decisions be made without knowing the consequences and cost associated with it? Honestly, I think you are exaggerating just to make a point because those numbers are quite large and someone should have done the appropriate research to determine if upgrading at such a large scale was appropriate.

Here's the constructive part. Dig in and start editing those view templates or just accept the fact that they will be visible.

The number are about right... it is a big project. 117 models about 40 VT per model is realistic. It is still a hard pill to swallow as this is not something anyone has to spend time on. Guess this is just a single item in Revit's code no one asked for.
