I have a Revit site plan linked into another file, subdivided lot now has two houses is the reason. I have the site with one of the houses in one file and I am linking it to the other house. I have two topo's, one existing and one new. They are showing correctly in the main file, with the existing only showing up as a dashed line at the top of the grade and that is all you see of it. When I link it however, it shows up with the dashed line, but it also obscures everything behind it, kind of like a solid white field region would do. Does anyone have any idea how to make the existing topo in the linked file 100 percent transparent and just show the dashed line like it does in the main file? I need to be able to see both existing and new grades for building height calcs. I really don't want to dumb it down to tracing a dumb line over the existing grade and then changing my phase to show new only.
Thanks!!
A couple initial thoughts:
1. Check the depth of field of your view?
2. You might check out how this linked files visibility is controlled. Often, if you want it to look closer to how it did in the original file you need to change your visibility settings to match those of the "linked view". More about this here.
If all else fails upload the files and someone can take a look at it.
Good luck.
Mike
Thanks Mike, but I've messed with the host/linked views and still can't get it to work. I'll attach a PDF to show what I'm talking about. I've messed with the phases graphic overrides as well with no luck. In the original file, I just applied a material to the existing topo cut pattern with a transparency of 100%, but I can't get it to show up correctly when I link it into this file.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? It is making me pull my hair out, so frustrating. All I need is to make the existing/demo topo not have a cut pattern, or if it has to have a cut pattern, make it 100% transparent. It says that the cut pattern is hidden right now, but it shows as if it has a solid white cut pattern that is obscuring everything that I need to see below the existing grade to the top of the new grade.
Thanks.
Transfer the project standards from the file you like to the file you don't like.
I'm trying to work out the same thing - in the building file, make the existing/demo topo surface of the linked site file 100% transparent. Phase Graphic Overrides does not have a transparency option.
I think I've found the solution with a filter in the Building File view template: In the site file, select the Existing Topo to be transparent; in Properties Palette, under Mark, type in Existing Topo (or whatever); in the building file create a filter called Topo Transparency (or whatever); under Category select Topography; Under Filter Rules, select Mark, equals = Existing Topo (or whatever name from the site file), add the filter and under Projection/Surface, Transparency set to 100%.
Also, in Phase Graphic Overrides, set Projection/Surface Patterns and Cut Patterns to not be visible. Make sure the phase of the existing/demo topo is is set to demo: new construction in the site file.
