Site Designer revit 2021

Dears,

I have a question whether Autodesk will discontinue the website designer. It is already in my workflow and that of my clients. However, Autodesk has not yet released for Revit 2021. Is anyone knowing anything about this?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I saw this link. We have already used this tool, however it does not replace the Site Designer. We consider Civil 3d for advanced design steps. At first we used the Site Designer. In the study phase. It concerns the lack of Site Designer, it would break an architecture workflow.

I guess you are out of luck then. But that's only going to change workflow on new projects going forward.  Legacy/current projects no problem.  Or are you saying that you and your team/stakeholders upgrade projects midstream?  Boy, that would be a monkey wrench.

The What’s New in Revit 2021 help topic (in the Not available in the current release section) notes that “Site Designer for Revit has been removed and is not available for Revit 2021”

Is there a particular feature you are currently using in Site Designer that would not be available if switching to working with the topography in Civil 3D (and linking into Revit)?

Hi Lance,
Unfortunately Civil 3D does not meet the need. We don't use Site Designer just to bring LandXML from Civil 3D. We really liked LinkTopography and have been using it since the 2019 version of Revit. However, the Civil 3D flow is used only after approval of the project study and by an external company. In the study stage we used all the tools of the Site Designer to study the project, we created the plateaus (Terrain), the roads, etc. It is very useful in this design phase. This can be done in Revit much faster and the Revit user does not need to learn to work in Civil3d. These are different functions for us in the company.

I’m not quite clear on what you mean by plateaus/terrain, but you can create/import toposurfaces in Revit without needing Site Designer: About Toposurfaces

I use the Site Tools for final Civil Drawings all the time.  I don't see a big advantage in using Civil 3D with simple building site drawings.  I think the reason Civil 3D is so popular with Civil-only firms, is because they already know it, it works in AutoCAD (VERY difficult for people to leave AutoCAD - even when it makes sense - e.g. the Arch/Struct switch to REVIT), and it's probably more powerful for intense Civil projects.  However, for site plans/grading  I find REVIT provides all I really need.  The "Site Designer" add-in was something I played with but didn't end up using that much.  It seems that most things that "automate" the layout usually end up doing things I don't want, and you spend so much time trying to get them to do what you want, it's easier to just do things yourself.  The only time these tools make sense is in extremely repetitive and simple tasks.

Unbelievable how Autodesk forces us to use other software just to make some terrain modifications easily. Something that we solved in a matter of minutes thanks to the Site Design plugin without having to leave Revit.

They did the same as with the "Timber Framing" extension for roof framing, which only runs until Revit 2018.

They have to understand that the average user most of the time does not need specialized tools that are dedicated solely and exclusively to certain tasks, we want a software that has the necessary tools to take care of the most common tasks without having to be paying extra and learning specialized software.

Classic Autodesk.   I've been a proponent for Autodesk products for years and was wanting to recommend them for Landscape Design and Permaculture design.  However their myopic or rather lack of vision to expand into adjacent spaces that could increase their revenue is horrendous.    They have always struggled with realizing there are other trades besides architects and civil engineers.
