SHORTCUT TO DUPLICATE FAMILY TYPES

I'd like to have the ability to duplicate family types via right clicking. As a Kitchen Design Consultant we have variable areas which have the same item but are needed to be type marked differently for scheduling purposes.

its quite a tedious process to do currently; Click on Item/click edit type/click duplicate/click ok. or is thre an alternative solution to this?

You can "Right Click - Duplicate" already from the Project Browser.

hi im aware of that but Its not a one step process

and when you dealing with 300+ components it is quite time consuming

Start keeping a library of your 300+ components so all you have to do is drag them into the project as needed.

Also, learn about Catalog files.

Regardless of the fact that I believe you had no clue about the Project Browser "Right Click" to duplicate (otherwise you wouldn't have been doing it via the Type Properties dialog)....

YOU SHOULD have a little bit of COURTESY to say at least THANK YOU ...

It's ok if you missed out on easy simple options, everyone does!!! Playing dumb and claiming you already knew what you were asking about makes it worse!!!

Now it is a riddle "You ask for a right click duplicate option but it is not the existing right click duplicate option which you really want!!! it's something else which is spelled out like Right Click Duplicate and does what a Right click Duplicate does but not that Right click duplicate option!!! Brilliant

Appologies  @Anonymous (and whoever comes accross this) YES I am being rude but this POST cannot be for real!!!

Thanks for the reply - i apparently wasnt to courteous previously, apologies.

what i was refering to is right clickin on a component in plan view. Doing it in the proect browser i would need still search for the item. So if we could have the same solution as in the projec tbrowser it would help speed up the process.

What am i missing? I should probably get something wrong as when I right-click on an object, there is no "Duplicate" option.

@Raaziq That would require a total rework of the right click function, which hasn't changed (much) in quite some time.

You can post your suggestion at Revit Ideas http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/idb-p/302/tab/most-recent

@Anonymous If that is something you are looking for too, @Raaziq will have a quick upvote.

You missed out on the part which says PROJECT BROWSER <----------

@Raaziq

That being said... Can you please explain HOW right click and duplicate in the active window makes things any easier than right click and duplicate in the browser? in which sense is it more convenient or easier?

You create a component  under a certain category and you are not sure what it is or where it is or where to look for it in theproject browser?! sorry but that still doesn't make sense!!! IF you created those kitchens! you should know to which family/category you assigned them... cabinets! Worktops! sinkes!!! it can't be that you are lost and confused where to search for those even if you didn't model them...it is not that they might be under structural columns or anything!

Besides!!! even if you would be able to right click in the active view to duplicate (that's is Santa Autodesk Hears ya and makes it available) IT WILL STILL BE duplicated in the browser and you will still have to go there to look for it!!! Thats where instances go when you duplicate them.
