Sheet Default Parameter Values

Is there any way to set a default value for Shared Parameters in the Sheets Category?

And also the built-in parameters. We don't have any of these on our sheets, but there may be a clue in there as well?

Which Revit version is this?

Can you use the new "Sheet Collection" feature instead?

Or at least minimize the use of custom parameters. You might be able to get away with just one parameter instead of multiple, then use sheet number parameter to help sort and organize.

I have found (from experience) that these parameters require a lot of time and effort and often become abandoned, making for a messy browser organization.

There are parameters which allow you to set a default value but not the Text ones. That said,

  • no there is no OOTB way to set a default value for the parameters VIEWSORT 1 and VIEW SORT 2 for Sheets
  • It is possible if you are creating sheet using a 3rd party plug in or dynamo
  • For Views Category on the other hand, it is possible to set a default value for these parameters by applying a view template with them filled

I am wondering though; what purpose would the default value serve in a text parameter if it will be edited anyways. Just like those built in parameters you highlighted with default value?

Approved By: Approver! This doesn't even serve the purpose of a help or tip considering the fact that "Approved By" is sufficient to understand what to fill in! Personally I would rather keep it empty and add a tool tip to the shared parameter used if a TIP is really required for a user to figure it out.

If it is a must for some reason...

  1. Open the sheet list
  2. Go to Sorting and Grouping tab
  3. Uncheck itemize ever Instance
  4. Fill in the default value you desire
  5. Check the Itemize Every Instance again and close the sheet list

That should fill in the value in all existing sheets...Once you start filling them in, they will populate in a drop down menu which the user can pick from when creating new sheets.
