Sheet Browser Organization: How to show/sort other parameters than Sheet number / Sheet name?

Hi all! Have this issue: we are working in a project with a standard system for numbering/naming sheets, but our client wants to use another for their own puroposes. We solved it simply at titleblocks by creating equivalent parameters for Sheet number / Sheet name, but now our client is asking to see and organize them in Project Browser this way. We tried creating a new organization scheme, but in the end the browser only can be sorted by scale or sheet number. Is there a way to change Sheet number / Sheet name as the only parameters shown? Or show/sort different parameter w/o have to change those?

Add a Project Parameter or two to Sheets Category.

Hi, @barthbradley, thanks. Indeed, but now add one parameter to replace the Sheet number parameter (imagine you are already using it to alternate numbering sheets), then use this parameter to sort and show in the browser. As you can see in your last capture, at the bottom of the Browser Organization Properties windows, there are only two parameters for sorting sheets: Scale and Sheet number. My question is if possible to change this or there is another workaround to sort w/o using those.

Did you ever solve this? I'm having the same issue.

@jfiferMJ4ME What exactly is the issue? How are you trying to sort the Browser?

So a sheet within the basic Revit template has the parameters: sheet group, and sheet sort. This makes it so that you can organize your headings in a sheet list index how the sheets will be printed: general, civil, architecture, etc. But the sheets under each "Sheet Group" heading are alphabetically ordered. Under the Sheet browser you can organize it similarly, but when you go to browser organization > Grouping and Sorting > Sort by... There are only two options, Sheet number and scale. The Autodesk help page claims you cannot add parameters, but that it should include sheet parameters. So currently we have our browser with the sheet group titles, but they can only be organized alphabetically by sheet name (or scale which makes even less sense). I can't find a common denominator between the Sheet number and scale parameter that I can apply to the Sheet Sort parameter.

@jfiferMJ4ME

Ok, thanks for that explanation.

So what is your desired outcome?

So currently lets say we have 3 "Sheet Groups" in the Project Browser: Group A, Group B & Group C. It would look like the below:

-Group A

    - A101 - Sheet 1

    - A102 - Sheet 2

    - A103 - Sheet 3

-Group B

    - A104 - Sheet 4

    - A105 - Sheet 5

    - A106 - Sheet 6

-Group C

    - A107 - Sheet 7

    - A108 - Sheet 8

    - A109 - Sheet 9

Based on this, how are you wanting to sort the sheets under each group?

Is there an issue with them being sorted by "Sheet Number"?

The sheet order underneath each group is perfect as is. I would like to keep the titles, "Group A" , "Group B," and "Group C", but organize them like "Group B", "Group C," "Group A". In actuality, our Sheet Groups are currently "Architectural," "Civil", "Electrical," "Fire Suppression," "General". The Desired order is "General," "Civil," "Architectural," etc.

Our Sheet Browser Currently:

@jfiferMJ4ME

So wouldn't the below steps work for you?

1. Create a new project parameter called whatever you want, I have called it "SHEET TYPE", and make sure it is assigned to "Sheets" as I have shown.

2. On each sheet, type in the group that you want to assign. But make sure to put a number in front of each group name, this way you can control the order. So it would go: 01-GENERAL, 02-CIVIL, 03-STRUCTURAL etc.

3. Create a new Browser Organisation that is grouped by this new parameter "SHEET TYPE" as I show below

003.png

4. Create your sheet list with the fields "Sheet Number", "Sheet Name" & the new parameter "SHEET TYPE". Under the "Sorting/Grouping" tab on the "Sheet List Properties" window, sort by: "SHEET TYPE" and select Header. Then sort by: "Sheet Number".

Does this solution work for what you are wanting?

Thank you for all the help. Although this does not fix the main sorting issue within the sheet browser, it works as a workaround. I did not create another parameter because it would throw off the sheet list/index. However, I created another parameter that lists the discipline w/o the number, and one that does. So, thank you for the solution!

Yep I appreciate it's a workaround, but glad it helps!

So the question was never answered.
In Revit, it appears there are only 2 variables to sort by (I don't care about grouping).
Is there any way to anything else?
