Shared Parameter deleted, still appears anyway

In the creation of a door family, I made a Head Height parameter that didn't work right, so I deleted it from the family (Family Types > Add Parameter > Select Shared Parameter > Edit Shared Parameter > Delete) and from the project (Manage Tab > Shared Parameters > Delete).

Despite this, it still appears in the properties palette when I select a door, and is still available as a field in my door schedule.

I looked in the shared parameter .txt file (only opened-did not edit) and the parameter "Head Height" is not in there. I have 1 shared parameters file with less than 10 parameters in it. I checked Project Parameters too, and it is not in there either. I do not know how it keeps showing up.

"(Family Types > Add Parameter > Select Shared Parameter > Edit Shared Parameter > Delete)"
This is NOT how you delete a parameter from a family (shared or not).

In family, just click on the Family Types button, highlight the parameter and click Delete button near the bottom.

In project, Manage tab > Project Parameters > select the parameter and remove.

Deleting a Shared Parameter does nothing retroactively. Every Family that was using the Shared Parameter, is still using the same Shared Parameter.  By deleting it, you just preventing new Families from using the Shared Parameter. Important to understand, is that Shared Parameters are "Shared" by virtue of their same GUID -- not by their same Name.  In other words, you cannot recreate a Shared Parameter to replace one you've deleted.   Make sense?

Okay, so you say that's not how they're supposed to be deleted, but there is a delete button in that dialog, and I have successfully deleted several other parameters with that method. It's the same dialog as when you go Manage Tab > Shared Parameters in as project. This "Edit Shared Parameters" dialog is how I deleted it. It no longer shows up in this dialog (family or project), nor does it show up in the .txt file. It only shows up in my properties palette and as an available field in schedules. I want it to go away from my properties palette, and I want it absent form my schedule fields dialog, but it seems I have no way to delete it.

I made a new project and put in a default wall and the default Single-Flush door and it still shows up in the properties of that door. I don't want a dud parameter in every project I make for the rest of eternity.

You were deleting the entries in the text file. It has nothing to do with what already exist in the families and projects. They are still there until you remove them as I described how in the previous reply.

Thank you, that makes more sense. However, neither of the methods you suggested work. The parameter does not appear in any Family Types dialog, for any family, and has not since I deleted it. It does not appear in the Project Parameters dialog either (that one is completely empty). This is why I say I deleted it, but it still appears in the properties palette in projects. Even in a new project, with every system and component family being out-of-the-box,  it appeared.

Are you saying that if you create a new project from one of the OOTB templates, the parameter still presents?  That doesn't make any sense.  Can you share that new blank project?

Is this what you were talking about?  That is not a shared parameter.  It is a system parameter for Doors/Windows category and you cannot delete it.

Head Height is an in-built System Parameter.

OH my goodness. You're right. I made a parameter of the same name in the same category. Can you tell I've been using Revit for less than 6 months? Haha. Thank you so much.

Nice re-edit to include Head Head explanation.  Kind of reverse re-packaging.  Well done.  Got me.
