Shared Parameter as instance parameter is greyed out

Hello,

I was creating a Host Thickness (HT) Shared Parameter to constrain to a loose RefPlane. The reason being is that I would like to schedule that dimension on a set of joined walls. The idea was to make it an instance so that we would align that RefPlane to the face of the Wall it needs reporting to.

We have 2 windows in the project (file attached). One of them allows for the HT to be picked and moved, i.e., it shows the grips. For the other one, however, it doesn't and it is greyed out on the Instance Properties.

I tried to remove and readd the Shared Parameter to no avail.

Can you suggest something?

Many thanks.

Good that you included the families with your post. Makes finding the problem/solution much easier.

In the door family you put your dimension between two locked reference planes (interior and exterior). This makes it a reporting parameter. So it is only able to report the distance not drive it.

You would have to add another reference plane and dimension it to that one, to be able to change it to a driving instance parameter.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

As stated by @L.Maas you'll need to create a new reference plane for driving the thickness. You'll also need to do this for the other family. Although you have the grips showing, it's not flexing your geometry because the geometry isn't locked to that reference plane. -Hope that make sense.

Thank you.

That is partially it.

I need to create a new RefPlane AND uncheck the Reporting Parameter box.

As it is a Shared Parameter it will schedule anyway, am I correct?

Thank you for your help.

Thanks Darin.

Actually, I need it NOT to be automated since the goal is to use it on parallel joined walls (exterior as a Wall Type and blockwork as a different wall type running toghether).

The idea is to place the window on the exterior wall type and align the Host Thickness RefPlan to the other face of the interior wall.

Does this make sense?
