Shared family parameters

Quick question.

I've created a various kitchen cabinets of different types as independent families. I want them to share the same parameters such as counter height, for material etc. I've created a shared parameter file with some shared parameter and link the different families to them but they're not updating across the different families? Do they have to be nested in another family? And if so will nesting them in a furniture system be the way to go. Roughly how would I Go about that. Model a whole kitchen as a unit then drop it into the model?

Are they all using the exact same Shared Parameters from the exact same Shared Parameter Text file?

Just to clarify: Did you add Shared Parameters to the same Shared Parameter Text File, and then pull those Shared Parameters into each Family that you want to use them?

...you know, it might be faster and easier to advise you if we could see your file.  Want to post it?

To make them update all at the same time,  you have to connect the parameters to Global Parameters in the project.  Shared Parameters are just so all the families will show in the same schedule that utilizes those same parameters.

Else you still have to adjust the information family by family or within a schedule.

What do you mean by "they're not updating across the different families"?

...You need to make the Nested families SHARED if you are expecting to report their Shared Parameters in the Project.

...Check out the attached RVT containing your Host family and see if the Schedule in it is reporting as you are expecting.  Nested Families in the Host are Shared.

Oh...I see what you are doing.

Click on one of your casework items and edit the Type Properties.   See the little rectangle buttons at the end of each row?  You need to click each one of those and associate the child parameter to a parameter in the parent family which is right now empty.

So yeah, shared parameters are held to the family only and are not immediately associated when placed in another family.
