Shared coordinates and moving buildings

Hi,

I have a model with a few buildings on it that sit on the wrong coordinates compared to the site (I wasn't given coordinates but needed to start the modelling to meet a deadline). Now I have already documented it fully and done a lot of work on the buildings in my model. And whenever I load in the site plan from the contractor my models sit in the wrong spot (as expected). I don't want to split my model up into individual buildings and push in shared coordinates there, so what would be the best approach to land on the same page as the contractors in regards to the coordinates? because when I try to federate the models it is all over the place.

If I move my buildings I will lose or have to relocate my 2D drafting and details. If I split the model up into individual buildings I will have to open every building every time I make a small tweak like changing cladding type or printing floor plans. Is there a good solution to this or should I just bite the bullet?

Also IF I move my buildings to suit the coordinates, what should I keep in mind when moving and what errors might I encounter?

TIA!

Assuming your buildings are all in the correct relationships to each other...link the site file and move it into the correct position, rotate as required to get it aligned properly. Then use Acquire Coordinates to adjust your Revit model's Survey Coordinate System to match the site file's World Coordinate System.

When you export your model to DWG, use the Positioning option: Shared so the resulting DWG files will align with the site data. Same will be true if exports to Navisworks are done.

If your buildings are not correctly positioned relative to each other then you'll have to move those so they are. You'll could run into some hosting issues, constraints that need to be broken besides having to revisit details to make sure they aren't affected by the move.

My default approach is a model for individual buildings, that are truly separate from each other. It gets murky when they are connected by a bridge or intermediate enclosure. It's a pain to go back and forth between files and to share detailing work but I've found that is offset by the ease of making changes that inevitably come which require shifting building locations and/or contractual arrangements turn each building into separate projects for example.

Good luck!
