Shape handles for default windows.

I understand that shape handles show up in elevation views.

I would like them to show up in 3d.

I have gone into a window family and changed the two reference planes that define the width of the window into reference lines, recreated the appropriate dimension, and assigned it to the width instance parameter.

This does not seem to work.

How can I obtain shape handles on my windows in 3d views?

Use reference lines in lieu of reference planes in the family and set the dimension control parameters as instance parameters.

I noted that I did in my initial post.

I must be doing something else wrong.

I used the fixed window default.

Check the Ref. Line's "Is Reference" parameter.

Make sure your reference line is set to something other than "not a reference"

Here is the modified Fixed Window family.  Pay attention to where you choose to place the reference lines.  These are where the grips show in project.

This works, still not sure what the difference might of been. You seem to have kept the original reference planes and added the reference lines and moved the width parameter. Perhaps I shouldn't have deleted the original reference planes?

I kept the original reference planes so that I didn't have to re-associate the geometry to make sure nothing would break. The reference lines were placed independently but sharing the same dimension parameters.

@ToanDN , I cannot get these to show on my 3D View, in spite of using RefLines set to be Reference and using Instance Parameters. Are there also any visibility settings to be aware of?

How do you change the dimension parameters from Type to Instance? It doesn`t let me, they are greyed out.

@ConstantineC,

You need to go in plan or elevation view and then select the dimension that is associated to that parameter. You will then have the possibility to check "Instance Parameter" in the "Label Dimension" group of the toolbar.

@MetalFingerz Thanks, I found the check feature, but still I`m not able to make the handles work.

I`m probably lost in which to which is dimensioned and constrain to.

Does the reference line need to be aligned to the sweep line or to the wall whole edge?

Could you have a look at the window family? its just a basic one with a sweep trim.

I wish there was a  tutorial about adding 3D shape handles to windows but I couldn`t find. There is only about other 3D family.

I`m happy that after a lot of trial and errors I finally did it !  🙂

Now I hope I will be able to add glass and other details if neccessary.

But I did noticed that in the in the family editor floorplan,  If I drag the reference lines, the window does not flex like in @ToanDN example. It does flex in 3D only. Do you know why?

For a sheet of glass to work with the handles and the whole window, do I just need to align and lock it to these refernece planes ?

But now I got a big dissapointment I realized that Revit cannot 3D Snap shape handles https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/revit-shape-handles-and-snapping/m-p/9829191...

Indeed Architects prefer visual designing and adjusting dimensions so I believe this should be a well deserver feature.

If you want 3d shape handles then use ref lines, not ref planes.

I know but I was struggling with constraining order.
