ceiling tag to read as spot elevation (top or bottom elevation)

i would like to have a ceiling tag read the way a spot elevation reads the "top elevation" or "bottom elevation" of an element? for instance, in an RCP i would like the ceiling tag to read the underside of the ceiling (gyp.bd.) or "top elevation"

Yes. Look at your Options Bar when placing Spot Elevations...

I thought a ceiling tag always reads the elevation of the underside of a ceiling, which is the bottom elevation.  Or do you want the elevation of the top of the ceiling?

in your description it would be the top. I am looking to tag the side of the ceiling between the ceiling and the structure.

I would like to create a ceiling tag that acts like the spot elevation in that I can tag the underside of the element e.g. the gyp.bd. ceiling. my ceiling tags right now have the label enclosed with a rectangle and I would like to keep that look with this new ceiling tag that reads the underside (top elevation)

You could get it by some ridiculous calculated value in the tag itself.  But why just not use a spot elevation?

we are getting there. so if the ceiling element is 5/8" gypsum board and is set at 8'-0"  in the typical ceiling tag it would read 8'-0". we set our ceilings so that the top side would read 8'-0". meaning we would set our ceiling height to be in this case the thickness of the ceiling 5/8" lower so that the tag will read 8'-0" (bearing height if you will)

I hope this helps in what I am trying to accomplish.

You mean a Spot Elevation without an Arrowhead or Symbol?

essentially yes. I would like to add a rectangle (box) around the label so that it looks like our current ceiling tag. per my attachment

I'm sure I could figure out a way. But, I got you almost there.  That's my contribution today.

Create a Spot Elevation symbol family with a box and load it in your project.  Edit a Spot Elevation type and use the symbol.  After place a spot elevation, just drag the label inside the box.
