Set stairs to end with riser by default

I want all of my stairs to end with a riser by default. But whenever I create a stair, it gets defaulted back to 

1. Begin with riser checked
2. End with riser Unchecked

How to set the stairs to check both by default?

Are you meaning that you want to make the End/Start Riser settings maintain a different default value? If so, use a stair that has those End/Start Riser settings as a Type Property - not Instance - and set the Type's End/Start Riser value as you desire.

Actually, you reminded me of an age-old thread I responded to about this very matter.

Here was the solution I provided:

"Here’s the trick: Select Stair by Component. You’re in editing mode now, right? Now, look directly under the Stair Family/Type see that Stair Drop Down Box – Click to open and see “Stair:New”. Click it! Now, notice the instance parameter are shown below. Check Begin with Riser and End with Riser. Now Sketch your stairs and close out of editing mode and – Voila!

Instant Parameters will remain set that way for all new stairs of that Family/Type until you change it the default again with Stairs:New."

Thanks so much. That setting is pretty much buried and I never would have found that setting. This 'End with riser' thing has been bugging me for years!

Hi, I can't do it with assembled stair. It doesn't let me chose end with the riser.

Are you directing this question to me, @Anonymous? If so, what is it that I can help you with? What exactly can't you do with an assembled stair, and what workflow are you using? 

P.S. In case you misread, the solution offered in this thread dealt with changing the DEFAULT settings.

This seems to have changed in the 2020 version.  Anyone know how to change this in 2020?  I seem to only get a riser at the top and I'd like a tread.  There are no checkboxes anymore.

Oh.  scratch that.  A more careful reading of this post and I see it is the same as before.  It is just SO very buried and so very non-user friendly that it foils revit expert users and newbies alike.  gotta love Revit sometimes.

I am only able to check these boxes AFTER I have created a stair, not before. Meaning I have to fiddle with all of my stairs after creating them. Am I missing something?

No you are not missing anything. Stairs created prior to this change need to be revised one by one.

By default, Revit has both of these checked when creating a stair. However, I have a project that has defaulted to only one being checked. Then how could this happen?

The railing type is unrelated. The issues is with the stairs being created without both the "begins with riser" and "ends with riser" boxes being checked. I could use any railing type (with or without top or bottom rail properties), and I have the same issues. Regardless of railing type.
