Separate files for topography

I was advised by a support person to put the topography into a separate file and attach it to the main file which makes it easier to work with (it's not a big project). Is this standard practice? I have started work on putting someone else's drawings in for development and their topography is mixed in with the design file so I need to advise on the file set up.

Thanks for any help.

@Eatoughls

Everything has Pros and Cons but niether are of any significance if you are working on a small project. Having a topo in a separate linked file may have more pro and advantages if you are working on a medium/large project with multiple buildings and/or multiple sites

Eventually, if in the future there is a need or a must, you can alwas split them

Thank you for your advice. Will look at splitting it later.
Best regards,
