Selection by family

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to select objects regarding their family and not their types. I used a wall with a single layer in my project and duplicated the type to have walls of various thickness and I would like to select all of them without having to select all the instances for each type.

Can you help me?

Thank you in advance

Create a wall schedule, add Type as a field, sort by Type, untick Itemized every instance. Highlight the rows of the types you need and CTRL tab to switch back to other view, all the walls of these types will be selected.

Or, high light the types you need from the family browser, right click and Select all instances in project (I don't have Revit now so I am not 100% sure it will work).

No, the function "Select all instances" does only work on family types.

Otherwise you would have to choose alternative routes like filtering.

Second alternative is look for an app which does what you want.

There are different apps in the apps store. Have a look if there is something that fulfills your needs (I have not used any of them)

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Hi ,

I can have two solutions:

Solution 1: (check the attached JPG)

To use "Window Selection" and after that use filter ,

You will be able to select different kinds of categories as (all basic walls , all curtain walls  all stacked walls,....)

Solution 2:(check the attached JPG)

To use " Ideate BIM explorer tool " (External addin)

N.B:

Ideate Explorer contains some functions within the dialog that work directly with the selection or with the highlighted elements.

I think that solution 2 is optimum for your issue.

Please mark this response as "Accept as Solution" if it answers your question.

Thank you for you reply, unfortunately I am working on a Professional computer which necessitates my asking to the IT service for any installation on it (and they often take a looong time to reply). But I would  search for an app that does that on my personal computer!

Thank you for your answer, but the filters won't work for walls of the same family I think, since it just filter by category. But I will look for the app you mentionned!
