1. Revit Sample Projects (Good Starting Point)
These aren’t always perfect wood-frame examples, but they’re excellent for understanding how a full professional set is organized in Revit.
a) Autodesk Revit Sample Projects (included with Revit)
Where to find (if you have Revit installed):
- Open Revit → Home screen → Browse Sample Files (or similar, depending on version).
- Look for projects like:
- rac_advanced_sample_project.rvt
- rac_basic_sample_project.rvt
What you get:
- Full sheet set: floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules.
- Door, window, room schedules already set up.
- Example material takeoffs and tags.
- Complete title blocks and sheet organization.
They are not classic “stick-built” framing sets, but you’ll learn:
- How sheets are named (A101, A201, etc.).
- How views, schedules, and details are organized in a real Revit workflow.
- How to use view templates, filters, and tags.
You can then adapt the structure of these projects when you build your own wood-frame house model.
2. Free / Educational American Wood-frame House Projects a) U.S. Government / Public-domain House Plans
Some U.S. agencies publish house plans and details in the public domain. They’re usually PDF, not RVT/DWG, but they’re great for learning.
Search for terms like:
- “US Forest Service wood frame house plans pdf”
- “HUD wood frame construction details”
- “Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide” (for structural detailing style)
These are often more technical and detail-focused (wall sections, framing details, etc.), so you can:
- Study wall and roof framing layouts and sections.
- Understand standard American details (sill plates, studs, sheathing, nailing patterns).
- Rebuild the geometry in Revit or AutoCAD for practice.
b) University / Architecture School Sample Projects
Many architecture schools publish sample residential projects online for teaching. Look for:

- “residential Revit model download site:.edu”
- “timber frame Revit tutorial project”
These sometimes include:
- Revit models (.RVT).
- PDFs with full sheet sets (A-series, S-series).
- Basic structural framing layouts.
They may not be exactly 150–250 m², but they’re very good reference material.
3. Wood-Frame House Sets From Plan Sites (With Framing)
Commercial house plan sites often have sample plans with framing layouts. You won’t usually get RVT, but you can download PDFs for study.
a) House Plan Websites (PDF only, but structurally rich)
Search patterns like:

- “sample house plans with framing layouts”
- “wood framing floor plan example pdf”
Look specifically for:
- “Foundation Plan”
- “Framing Plan”
- “Roof Framing Plan”
- “Wall Sections and Details”
Even if they don’t give native RVT/DWG, they can serve as a complete reference to:
- Slab-on-grade foundation details.
- Floor and roof joist/rafter layouts.
- Typical connection details and schedules.
4. Revit & CAD Resource Sites a) BIM object / Revit content sites
Some BIM portals host full sample projects or partial house models:
Search for:

- “single family house Revit model free”
Look for files that explicitly mention:
- Structural or architectural Revit model.
- Framing (wood or timber frame).
Even if they’re not fully detailed with sheets, you can:
- Add your own sheets (A101, A201, S101, etc.).
- Create your own schedules and material takeoffs from the model.
b) AutoCAD + PDF hybrid sets
Some civil/architectural forums and libraries share full small-house sets in DWG + PDF:
Search:

These often include:
- Foundation/slab plan.
- Floor plan.
- Roof plan / roof framing.
- Sections and details.
- Door/window schedules.
You can import DWGs into Revit as references and build your own RVT model on top.
5. How to Evaluate if a Project Meets Your Needs
When you find a candidate project, check if it has at least:
Architectural:
- Floor plan(s).
- Elevations.
- At least 1–2 sections through critical areas (stairs, bathrooms, roof intersections).
- Door and window schedules.
Structural:
- Slab-on-grade (or foundation) plan: showing rebar, thickened edges, footing layout.
- Wall framing plans: stud layout, header callouts, shear walls if any.
- Roof framing plan: rafters, trusses, ridge, beams.
- Structural details: typical wall section, footing detail, roof-wall connection.
Schedules / Takeoff:
- Door and window schedules.
- Possibly a room finish schedule or simple material takeoff.
- If in Revit: material takeoff schedules and sheet set.
If the project is Revit-based and doesn’t have everything:
- You can use it as a “half complete” teaching model:
- Add your own wall/roof framing views.
- Create your own structural plans (S101, S102).
- Build your own schedules using Revit’s schedule tools, learning the workflow.
6. Practical Plan for You
Since you work in construction and are Revit-oriented, a good learning path would be:
Start with the Autodesk Revit sample projects:
- Study how views, sheets, and schedules are organized.
- Practice duplicating and modifying schedules (door, window, material takeoffs).
- Recreate a simpler, smaller “single story” version as your own project.
Download a public-domain wood-frame house PDF set:
- Focus on framing and structure.
- Re-model the architectural and structural parts in Revit.
- Create:
- A101 – Floor Plan.
- A201 – Elevations / Sections.
- S101 – Foundation / Framing Plan.
- Door/window schedules and basic material takeoff.
Use DWGs as underlays if you find them:
- Import into Revit.
- Trace and replace with proper Revit families and framing members.
