RVT 2022 - objects won't rotate

Just as it sounds, objects placed into a Revit model can not be rotated. (For example, a chair placed on a floor, then rotated into position)

There's no error displayed, the object simply just doesn't rotate after either graphically drawing the rotation angle or entering in the angle.

Objects aren't pinned or locked to some plane

Have tried creating new models

Have tried using different templates

wtf is going on here..

I'm almost certain this is a bug in Revit 2022 as this family worked fine in 2020. Now when we place it, we have to do the workaround mentioned above to group the element in order to rotate it.

Strange enough, the rotate function works fine if you place the element in an empty void within the project, leaving it un-hosted. The moment you host it to a floor or topography however, the rotate function just outright refuses to work. We don't even get an error popup.

Currently on Revit 2022.1.2

Nice workaround.

Insane indeed.  I simply cannot understand why ADesk cares so little about the most basic functionality.

Could it be because they are a global monopoly that, by law, only cares about shareholder value?  I mean, why fix things like basic rotation in a 3D modelling program when you're a monopoly?

I too am having this issue.  Rotation has worked fine in the project file so far and all of a sudden there are certain families that will only rotate 90 deg. I can place them rotated into any orientation, but after that no joy, even with the Align command.  So far it's both furniture and generic families, but not all furniture or generic families.  The group/ungroup trick does not work for me.  Always vertical doesn't seem to be a factor either as I tested that to no avail.

I have "solved" this issue, at least for my case.

It is happening only to elements hosted to my floor element, rather than a level.  As soon as I hosted the elements to the level itself, items go back to rotating freely.

As you can't pick a level as a new host from plan, I have done it in section where I can easily select the level as the host.

Hello @ryley.g.h

Thank you for reporting this problem,   This has been reproduced and confirmed to be a problem in Revit.
We've created the AKN article below to track this incident.  Please note the status section will be updated as a fix is incorporated in a future release of Revit.

This also happens with parts created from Floors.

You can rotate them a maximum of 44.75 degrees, any more than that the crop region rotates but the actual view remains unchanged. If you try 180º (which is what I need) the drawing just remains unchanged. I tested on Revit 2022 and 2023. None of them work.

This issue has just come up for me as well. RVT 2022 it is happening with a lot of different families. All objects that just 2 days ago I was able to rotate and yesterday it happened in one project and now in another project. So far it is furniture and entourage. I've checked that items that autodesk suggested and they are all fine and deselecting the alwasy vertical doesn't help. I'm trying to rotate in plan. Again, 2 days ago I was rotating these exact same objects and now I can't.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

There is no issue.  Pay attention to the boxes on the option bar when rotate.

I had a Student on my side with the same problem and asked them to switch off their hardware acceleration in the REVIT settings, which resolved it. I assume in must be, in this case, a problem with low-end GPUs.

I'm running an intense desktop setup with 64mb of ram, so it's definitely
not a performance issue on my end.

I had the same problem. I solved it by clicking "create similar" and using this new object.

Found a work around here guys...
Elevate the object slightly off the hosted floor (I've used as little as 10mm).

It works !  Still irritating though.

This is a bug in Revit in 2022, and it is not the only issue with that version. If possible, update to 2023.1, which works very well.

I  can help:

there is a workaround ( as always in this flawed overpriced program, that we "love")

click on existing furniture etc,  shortcut cs and place a new version, it will align to any object, angle you want!

@michael.coviello

I think the rotation issue that this thread is referring to is not what you are referring to. It's just the simple rotation of an element (such as chair or desk) in plan view, in Revit 2022. It does not respond well to the Rotate tool nor to the space bar. This happened to me, too. It's a bug, in my opinion. I don't know if it was fixed in the latest build of 2022. It works correctly in Revit 2023.

It would be good to specify in that article the Revit version, as this issue happens in 2022, not in other versions before or after.

I experienced no such problem during the entire 3 years using Revit 2022.  Whoever reported that problem likely had the Copy box checked when rotate a floor hosted element.

The issue is true. It has been reported by several users, and only with Revit 2022. I´ve seen it, too, and I never ever use the Copy option for rotation.

Do you have a Revit 2022 file with that issue?
