Is there a way to freely add images and customise RPC entourage using Revit?

I don't want to use Envision, Archivision or any other third party software.

Unless I am missing something, your link describes how to customise RPC content using enscape. I don't want to use third party software, just Revit.

Is there a way to just do this using Revit? Specifically, customising images?

Maybe I'm not understanding what you want to do? Sounds like you want to create custom Rich Photorealistic Content (RCP) without Archvision.  That's like saying you want to create a Revit content without Revit.  How would you "convert" your images into RPCs?   Maybe that's the crux of what you are asking -- that is, if there's another application to use to create RCPs.  Not to my knowledge.  What's wrong with using Autodesk's partner; Archvision?

I installed Archivision within Revit and the dashboard. Neither offer the full flexibility I am seeking. Perhaps they do if you buy them. The add-in doesn't work at all. The dashboard has some items relevant to me but they are watermarked and I can't create my own without buying that software.

I don't understand the limitation you describe, I am asking how to convert images into RCP's, not how to do it with Archivision. Revit comes with an RCP family by default. I want to use it. Can anybody tell me how? Has Autodesk built in this limitation?

It is not necessary to install Archvision Dashboard to use the default RPC Revit Content. Just open up an OOTB RCP Family, such as RPC Plant - Tropical.rfa.  Then open the Family Types dialog box and scroll down to and expand Identity Data and check out Render Appearance Properties and Render Appearances .

...set Class to All and be prepared to have your mind blown by the amount of free RCP content there is.  See how much work I just saved you.  

...BTW: RPC was invented by Archvision.

I paid a lot of money for the 'free content'. The images are more like teasers. I don't want any of them. I want to create my own content with my own images etc. Is this possible?

... you can NOT make it like a native REVIT RPC

... as @barthbradley  is saying ... no matter what you need to use at least Archvision

We had over 1000+ RPC "people" at a previous company...and because our material images were hosted on our servers only they were pretty much worthless to other companies that might try to take them.

I'm wandering how to use Revit to may custom RCP entourage. I want to know how to insert my own images.

Was there a time that you could customise your own RCP in Revit? If so, which version?

Are there any workarounds? Any hacks? Where do the images reside? Autodesk, can you rectify this omission if it is one?

@ro : I think you are failing to understand "RPC".  "RPC" IS Archvision. It's their baby.  They own it.  They partner with Autodesk, just like Oracle partners with Microsoft.   If you don't want to use Archvision, then forget "RPC".  Figure out how you can create your own photo-realistic content to use in Revit -- a  BIM* software. 

* Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.

Dashboard is an RPC Content Manager.  Do you have any RPC content to manage? If not, that looks exactly right.

If you want to make an easy to use entourage library you can do it as I do it currently , by using a Mass Element Surface mapped with a bitmap with alpha mask.....

Here are some example how they look in rendering ( the render was made in Autodesk Cloud) - people and trees...

It's based on scanned hand sketches with an alpha mask made in Photoshop and mapped to a Mass Surface..I use them mainly in conceptual design phase that has to look as something made it up on the spot...
