Rotation parameter breaks

What is the right way to constrain a reference line in order to add an angle parameter? In all the tutorials I saw seems pretty simple.. But what happens when you set a 0/90/180 parameter? Everytime I do this in a family, it breaks because it got constrain to the main reference lines....

Example: I created a simple rectangle family (model line).... Should be rotating with the reference line (image 01), but breaks everytime you set the angle to 0 or 90 and then you want to turn back (image 02)....

So, how to handle?

I know this is a pretty old topic now, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in...

Andrew's work around came pretty close to being a perfect solution. We have family templates with reference lines and rotation parameters, however ours are a little more complex because we have 2 or 3 referecene lines joined that have to rotate in tandem with each other.

In Revit 2018 and Revit 2021 our familes work with ANY angle, positive or negative without having to do any special workarounds. The angle parameters are extremely robust and handle anything you throw at them. However in Revit 2019 and 2020 the angle parameters in families are useless. I don't know what changed in these 2 versions but it's made it virtually impossible to have fool proof angle parameters. I've tried dozens of "solutions", some work better than others, but I am still always able to break the parameters with certain angle combinations especially with 0 and 180°.  This is not ideal for us because we need full 360° rotation for all of our angles.

What's strange is the parameters work fine when loaded into a project. It's only in the family editor that the parameters break. I guess it's something we're going to have to live with.

Thank god the problem is again resolved in Revit 2021, so we're looking forward to being able to use this version for all our families.

I am happy to be proven wrong so if anyone can get this family to work in Revit 2020 without parameters breaking, I'd be much obliged 🙂

(i.e all angles set to 0, angles greater than 180 etc)
