Rotate line to be perpendicular to another line

I'm trying to figure out how to rotate one line to be perpendicular to another line.

I'm using model lines or construction lines for my 'training'.

Using the Rotate command, I select a line, select a rotation spot, then select the begining angle. I want the line to rotate perpendicular to another line but it just won't do it. The line will rotate to Nearest, Intersection, Endpoint, but not Perpendicular.

Revit 'dings' at me when I try to Snap to Perpendicular (SP).

Am I missing something??

I'm doing this in plan view on a level by the way.

Revit 2016.

Yes in rotation this function is not available. However it also something I never needed. I often just rotate by 90° (typing in the numbers).

And while freely rotating you see that at certian angels the rotation seems to 'pause'. These are the common angles. So when you approach the 90° you will see the pause and when clicked the angle will be exactly 90°. Revit does this also at other angles. Look in your snap settings for what your settings are.

The further you zoom into your view the smaller the angles Revit will use to pause.

Hard to imagine never needing it. We work with industrial structures and there are frequently non-90 degree connections.

So, I often need to rotate a beam from one end so the other end is perpendicular to an angled beam or to a conveyor belt centerline, etc., what do I do?

Do I draw a construction line, then rotate that beam to the construction line?  It seems like too much work.

I really don’t see why the Perpendicular snap is greyed out on the right click menu or not available to begin with. Weird. Perhaps a wish list item.

Any tips?

Thanks.

Seems SP (snap perpendicular) does not work inside the Rotate command.

However, Revit does seem to "sniff" out 90 degree angle to to object you are trying to rotate perpendicular to.

I just tried it with 2 detail lines drawn at ambiguous non- perpendicular angles, rotated one and during rotation, it "paused" as if it "noticed"

a 90 degree relationship. It ended the rotate command, and noticed that it indeed was 90 deg./perpendicular.

Not sure about beams. I usually use reference planes for my "construction lines" when modeling in 3D, not "lines".

There are many advantages of using reference planes and reference lines, regarding "workplane" orientation, attaching elements to ref. planes, etc.

Thanks for the tips and looking into this.

I'm not really noticing the rotate command pausing reliably at the perpendicular spot.

Sometimes I think it might be, but I'm not consistant with it.

I enjoy using Revit but it's little things like this that will be headaches for my users and I want to get the frustrating things worked out before making everyone use Revit.

Reference lines and planes do play a key role and I'll have to mention that during training and roll out.

Thanks again.

I am trying to rotating surface paving pattern to align 90 degree with a kerb-so yes, it would be useful to have the ability to snap to perpendicular.
