Rooms not showing in linked model

I have a host model with a linked architecture model.
I'd like to place room tags in the host model.
For some reason I cannot get the rooms to show up in the host model.
Linked model display settings is set to Host and in VG Rooms are checked.

Revit_I8WBcoRcgG.png
On the right side is the original architecture model with rooms showing (the references visible, i.e. I can tag them)
On the left - my host model. Same VG settings, room references are not showing, so I can't tag them.

What's wrong here? Why are rooms not showing up in host model?

Thank you for the answer. I was aware of this, but I'm looking for an option where I don't use this.

If I use this. This would mean, that I will have to do this for all the plans individually (I have a lot, 30+)
Also, this would mean, that I wouldn't be able to customize the look of host model plans, as they are derived from linked model.

Shouldn't the rooms show up in host model as well? Or is this some kind of limitation of Revit?

  • This would mean, that I will have to do this for all the plans individually (I have a lot, 30+)
  • As long as each View has its own annotation I think it's wise to activate in each Host View a corespondent View from the Linked file. What if Level 1 from Host is at the same height with Level 2 from Linked, and I have to show both of them in the same Plan? I have to set them manually as long as decision is mine and not of the computer...

  • No, the Linked file settings do not affect  settings of the Host entities. They are different settings for Host and Links as long as they are treated separately in VGO. Anyway Room Schedule can Include Elements in Links.

You won't see the rooms until you activate the room tag tool. Room categories need to be on in both the link and the host view.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

The left side looks quite different.

Maybe the phase settings don't match?

What's the phase of the rooms in the link and what's the phase setting of the host view?

(also check how the phases are mappend, select link > edit type > phase mapping)

Two suggestions:

1) Check in VGO , as Constantin suggested and check "Custom". Make sure in the "Custom" settings to have checked the box for "Rooms" in the link.

2) Click the link and in the properties, check "Room Boundary". If it's not check, you may not define rooms in the master file using the geometry in the link.Link room bounding.JPG

Check what workset the room object is placed at. If they placed the object in Workset1 and you have workset1 turnoff by default, this may hide those room objects.

Check out my Revit youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/scourdx

As long as each View has its own annotation I think it's wise to activate in each Host View a corespondent View from the Linked file.
Ok, you might have a point. Maybe I need to rethink my approach.

No, the Linked file settings do not affect settings of the Host entities.

From my experience it does. If I set "by linked view", the regular VG category settings have no effect for that view.

In my case, I have my views configured the way I want (with specific filter colors and visibilities), with the only exception, that I don't have room tags. If there is a way to get ONLY the room tags from linked view (without changing anything else about the view (including colors, view ranges, category visibility, ect.)), then I'd be happy.

I have activated the tag tool. I have loaded the necessary tag family and all.
When I press the room tag tool button in the host file, it asks to click on a taggable element (in this case - a room), but since rooms are not showing up, I can't click on anything.

Room Categories are on for both host and linked files.

1) I tried setting it to "Custom" and checked the Rooms for that link. No success. The only way to get the rooms to show up, is to use linked view, but I'm a bit reluctant to do this, as I outlined in the previous answer. I assume there is something else preventing the rooms to show up.

2) I don't have that kind checkbox for my link
Revit_vd7weWNCP4.png

There is a checkbox in type settings, but that did not change anything. Room elements still don't show up.

A lot of possibilities have been covered. It's time to end the guessing game. Share the files.

Ok. Here are the files.

SH19_EL.rvt is the host file
SH19_AR_BP.rvt is linked to the host

For example, looking at plan view "07/H10/1" in the host file, I cannot get the room elements to show up.

Hi,

Phases don't match between models. Only Phase 2 is linked from link, rooms are in Phase 1 so would never show.

Select link > Edit Type and set Phases correct, sample below, rooms show up.

See my post from a week ago about phase setting!

Thank you. This worked. Sorry about me missing your previous post.

Though, I've been working in Revit for quite a while now (over a year), some things still escape me.
