Room will not place within room boundaries of the same LxW as another room bounded by walls

Hallo everyone,

So I am trying to place rooms/spaces which repsent lost or crawling spaces behind walls/cladding and I am experiencing a wierd behavior and I cannot understand why. This is an empty ootb new model, so nothing complicated intside...tried this in 2022, 2024 and 2025...Logically I would understand if there is a min. area below which te tools for rooms and/or spaces simply will not work but to randomly work in one spot and not in another implies that something is not right with the software, at least from where I am standing. Or is there some kind of trick behind this which get rooms and space to work?

  1. If I place the room in a space delimited by 3 walls and a column or 4 walls (ca. 15cm x 50cm) the room appears to work fine
  2. If I try to place the room is the same LxW space but delimited by Room Separators, the room refuses to be placed and/or enclosed!!!

In other location it is behaving the oposite way round...meaning it working when bound by room boundaries and doesnt when room is bound by 4 walls

What you posted is irrelevant to the issue. To recreate you would need to read while casting an eye on the posted images. Nonetheless, to save you and others the trouble, see attached Revit file.

Try solve the bounding issues of Rooms 3, 4 and 6 (Note that room 1 as well as room 2 are smaller in dimension and area compared to the offending rooms which refuse to be bound)

It seems differnet bounding elements have different bounding properties or limits!!!

  • if bound with only columns (4 sides) I can go down with the room width as slim at 25mm
  • if bound only by system family wall (4 sides) the room cannot be narrower than 106.5mm
  • room bound by only Room Separators cannot be less than 276mm in width!
  • and using a combination of elements intorduces new variations to how slim or narrow a room/space width can be

Can autodesk work on something more consistant and slightly more accurate maybe?
