Room Tag Leaders - Populating Automatically (New Feature) Issues

I see that in 2023.1 Revit will automatically enable a leader for Room Tags when 'outside' of the room boundaries. No more error pop ups  - Help | Automatically Enabled Tag Leader | Autodesk

Sounds great.... supposed to eliminate this issue:

Room Tag Is Outside of Its Room | Revit 2019 | Autodesk Knowledge Network

Except now I see leaders starting to appear randomly for some room tags that I definitely don't want, even if the room tag was originally placed in the room and is still in the room and maybe it was adjusted to be a good position for the drawing's other annotations and based on the wall locations etc. The initial placement of said tag did not include enabling the leader and it is happening to random tags too, so not sure yet if this is happening consistently. *Note - When placing the rooms in Revit, the 3D room origin is set where a person clicks in the space, but it's definitely not always precisely where you want the tag to be. Not everyone moves the 3D room origin to the same spot as the tag since that could change a bunch in the design process. So you place the room, often move the tag around a bit.

Room Tag Automatically Adding Leader Randomly After Opening or Synching.PNG

Ok... so I need to figure out how to stop these pesky automatic leaders and clean up the ones created that I don't want! If I disable the leader that appears automatically, the tag jumps to another location - it seems to sometimes jump to the 3D room origin, often where this automatic leader is pointing to. So, it seems this new automation pulls the room origin and locates the tag based on it to pick up if it 'should' have a leader or not. It's a pain as it seems now I would need to know precisely the limit of offset from the 3D room origin that my tag needs to be in order to stop this automatic leader from happening or keep moving my 3D room origin to match my tag location. Also, the room boundary must affect this automatic leader and if so, to what limit?

Uncheck Leader and Tag Moves to Room Origin Even When Not Originally Placed There.PNG

Solution...? My working theory is that now I have to go back and: Move the tag again AND move the room origin closer together & likely also keep my tag a certain distance away from room boundaries...  FOR HUNDREDS OF ROOMS with annotations etc changing and being added all the time. If the room tag was legitimately out of the room boundaries, I can see a leader being added, but I am seeing it being added with the tag that is still within the extents of the room, just not always precisely aligned to the room origins.

Autodesk, I know this was a community suggested feature, but it has some not so great side effects so far that I have experienced. Any other users reporting this unwanted behavior since upgrading your projects?

I haven't encountered the "random" issues you are describing.  Sounds maddening.  Regarding leaders being attached automatically to Tags that are outside of the Room, perhaps Graphic Overrides By Element could be workaround.   White on White would "hide" the Leaders.  As for Leaders originated from the intersection of Reference Linework; what about moving the Leader - not the intersection?

Hello,

We have the same issue after installing the latest version of Revit 2023. We contacted Autodesk and one of the experts responded the following:

I believe this is a new addition to Revit 2023 and was extracted from the Revit Ideas forum for implementation. Please see below article about it:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/tr...
Since it is a new addition, I doubt they will take it back, however you could write in the Revit Ideas Forum, requesting at least to make this change optional. The Revit ideas forum can be found here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/idb-...

I posted it to the Revit Ideas forum as he suggested. See the link here:

Automation is a wonderful idea until the results are unexpected.

Have you examined your family to see where the origin is in relation to the labels?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Yes, it's not far off the center of the tag/text, but unless my tag centroid and the room centroid are exactly, or are very closely matching I get leaders popping up - even small ones. So they programmed the automation to pick up the centroids of tags and rooms, but no one knows what the buffer is - ie what is the max distance the centers of the tag and room can be apart before leaders populate.

I agree, this feature is terrible and should at least be optional.

Posting the solution from @oskyparkin and the links above:

I am waiting to get this solution available for an entire team working in VDI environments, but when I tested it to my own profile it worked.
