Room and Spaces

Hello Community,

I would like to include an space within a room but surprisingly the space separation line is room bounding my room and therefore extract the volume of the space from my room, how this is possible???

The situation is that in a residential building we have apartment groups and we would like to include an space within a room that we would like to schedule within a particular room and flat.

I thought that spaces would be a good solution, however when I started placing spaces and spaces separations at the beginning everything is fine but at any point of time Revit start room bounding and extracting the volumes from the room this spaces are.

any idea why this is happening and any solution???

Many thanks in advance,

I'm afraid I don't understand what you want....

Do you want to group rooms in appartments and show them as that in drawings and schedules?

Spaces are , as I know, alternatives of Rooms for MEP , and they are use both with Zones mainly for HVAC calculations...

If you want to group Rooms in apartments or other functional units , then use Deparment:

  • select Rooms that you intent to make parts of an apartment or other functional unit ( selection can be done on Plan Views or in Room Schedules) - from Properties ( or Room Shedule's field) > Identity Data > Department - name somehow the group (as example :apartment no 1...n)
  • deselect
  • Properties>Graphics > Color Scheme > swap from Name to Department
  • In schedule you have to have activated the Field: Department

Thanks,

What I need basically is include a room within a room, I have apartment groups (with the rooms included) and within the living room we have an area that is amenity space and needs to be schedule per apartment, I do not want to create a separate room for the amenity space because it belongs to the living-room.

Is this more clear?

Thanks

@Anonymous, I'm afraid there's no easy answer. In one hand, you place an actual room and accept all parameters - which will let you list the spaces in schedules. In another, you will simply place a dummy text and give up listing.

- Draw the Amenity rooms somewhere off the plan and use parameter filter to include/exclude them on schedules depend on where you need to show them.

- Use Area plan and Area schedules

I'm probably misunderstanding the goal here, but for what it's worth I can create a Space within a Room and the Room Area and Volume are not modified by the presence of the Space element.  I was surprised to realize that you can make a Space Schedule that shows the room within which it exists.

Thanks guys, I think the best solution to my problem ( which is not 100% BIM and accurate) I have deleted the space from groups and replace for a generic model in place (only visible in plan view) because is in place I can adjust the geometry to the apartment layout and in order to list the area I am going to add a new area parameter which I manually give the input.
It is not perfect but at least I can list the amenity space area per apartment without affecting the room areas.
Thanks everyone for your feedbacks

Hi,

Just use phase, you can solve this issue,

Usually in all Revit file you have two phase:

1. Existing

2. New Construction

And you are creating all of your model in New construction which is fine.

For that amenity area you can follow below steps;

1. Create New phase in phase dialogue box after New Construction

2. Go to floor plan and change your current phase from New Construction to that new phase

3. Define your room separator line and Room element for amenity area,

because you are creating that in new phase after New Construction it will not affect to you current room area and schedule,

For scheduling you can change your schedule setup to specific phase as you need.
