Roofs connection problem

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there is a way to connect roofs with different slopes nicely so that I don't get them looking funky( please see attached image)? Using the rafter cut command doesn't work. Thanks!

When I am working on complex roofs in Residential, I tend to generate a simple roof type that just has plywood and finishing. The ceiling I model as a separate interior roof by extrusion. then the remainder of the information can be masked out during detailing. Getting those join conditions to work accordingly are difficult. It allows for a bit more freedom. Otherwise, unless you utilize 2 cut plumb rafter cuts, there is no easy way to clean up those joins without a ton of masking and hiding.

Be helpful to see a Roof Plan View , Elevations at Left and Right Side and Plate Height information. You can post your file if you want.  Be aware that your Cross-Section representation may look "funky", but be accurate.

What's the supports here?  You're going to need something to carry the load.

ditto what bin said.. roof by extrusion would do it clean... you might still need to create some void extrusions in the end though... play with it.. you'll get there.

Either using 2 roofs with that funny corner or 1 roof by extrusion, it will be the same in the roof plan. 

So maybe just fill region/masking region to cover it in large scale section and create a detail drawing for that corner.

It's not two roofs, its three.... but as an extrusion, its just one..  Roof by footprint is nice because it lands at the elevation easier... but you have to create more voids to clean it up... early on i would have used the masking tool to clean it up....it does work.  The challenge is if you have to go in and change a project later on...it can be difficult and confusing to remebemer how you created it, ...whats real and whats not...... also...the maskings only help you in one view.  Today,  I rather create the void extrusion to trim the model more accurately.  That way it shows properly in all views. 

 

There's never really a "blanket" approach that works in all cases... keep all of your tools at the ready.

Have a look of Cutoff Level and Cutoff Offset in roof properties, which might save you a little bit of time...

I guess if the goal is just make it look "pretty" and not to actually plan the construction (which is what I do for a living), the OP could just use Roof by Extrusion.

Dude...what's wrong...did somebody burn your toast?... your point about the supports is spot on, but I thought that was an elevation.

Roof by Extrusion is the easiest way. And to reshape it boundary on plan, simply using Vertical Opening tool instead of in-place voids.

Off topic but it isn't particular difficult to support those points.

Did I sound that way?  Like someone burnt my toast? Sorry.  Maybe I wrote that post before eating my Snicker's bar. You know what they say, don't you? "You're not you when you are hungry."  I might have been a cranky Betty White at the time. (he, he)

 

Regarding the supports; I brought that up because none were showing in the cross-section the OP posted -- exactly where you would expect to see them.  Something should be there -- a beam or a wall.  I guess it could be trussed instead of stick framed though.  I can see that.
