Roof Errors

I'm working in Revit 2018.3. I don't understand my issue in the slightest. I tried creating a roof, from foot print, and I kept deleting lines til it would create. I literally can not get a roof to create with more than 6 sides. Is there something wrong with build of Revit? I've attached a snippet of a roof shape that errors out.

I don't see how simple it would be to deal with a roof like this with shape editing, no matter how much I like to use the feature.

I don't no what to say to that. Took me less than a minute to draw the roof above.  2 Split Line representing 2 (of the 4) ridges.  The offset value of the ridge is equal to the total rise at that location.  For example, if it's a 5:12 roof and the ridge is inset 15 feet from the roof's zero origin, then the ridge is elevated 6'-3".

Cheers!

@KraiggC: Is this latest roof actually modeled? It make no sense to me. Can you show us a 3D view of it?

Is it possible to build a gable that dies into the sloped side of a hip roof into one roof? I know I can build the hip, then the gable separately but Id prefer not to do that due to the gable end being in the same plane as the eve of the main roof. But if it can't be done then I guess I won't have another choice.

Yes sir, it's finally getting modeled. My problem seemed to be originating from the fact I picked lines instead of manually drawing them? Then I had some other issues with my roof not allow me to make it square in the "L" sections, but that was relieved by offsetting the line instead of drawing is and adjusting it via the temporary dimension.

If you mean a gable like this (images)? Edit the boundary of the roof sketch so that there is a segment for each half of the gable, either side of where the gable ridge would be and then place a Slope Arrow on each, pointing toward the ridge. Change the slope settings for the slope arrow as needed.

Reminds me of Penrose Stairs. Ha!  Want to post it?  Still can't make sense of it from the 3D screenshot.

Thanks.

No, as you can see from the latest image I attached I have gables already. The situation I have is a gable located in a valley that has one side dying into a hipped slope.

Ah! I see how it works.  Nice.  I can see the rest of the roofs being done as separates and joined via the Roof Unjoin/Join Tool  on the Modify Tab.  I don't see a condition where a gable would dive into a valley, as you described above.  Maybe you can post a screenshot with circles around the areas you are finding challenging to roof?

It's not modeled yet, but attached is a screen shot with the area in question.

Why not just move the hip out of the way?

The floor plan, and resulting roof design, kinda dictate the gable location. i tried nixing it altogether. that wasn't well received.

it's a weird condition. I don't how it frames.  But you can get there in Revit (sort of) with a Roof by Extrusion.
