I am using Revit 2016 and suddenly the ribbon has disappeared.

I have tried deleting the .dat file as suggested by someone and even reinstalled the program to no avail.

I am running it on a laptop and Windows 10.

Please help.

Hi!

Sometimes it happens when user move Project Browser and Property Palette. In most cases, you need just relocate them to the default position, then you can move them again as you wish.

I've had issues with components of programs not appearing on Win10 as well.  Check the setting of "Change the size of text, apps, and other items".

To get to it go to your desktop. Right Click->Display Settings.  There will be a slide control.  Mine was set to 125%.  When I changed it back down to 100%, my issues went away.

@Anonymous, are you still running into this issue, or did any of the above steps resolve things for you?

I am still having the same problem. I’ve tried everything that was suggested except one. This involved editing the Windows registry which I am hesitant to try. If nothing else works I will be forced to try that one. I know I have to backup the registry before along with a couple of a.DAT file so maybe this weekend I will try it.

Hi, frankserafino,

I'm Judy, a Revit support specialist. Sorry to hear you are still having trouble with Revit on your Windows 10 laptop. Before I go further, have you installed the latest build of Revit 2016 (this is Revit 2016 R2 Update Release 7)?

We've found some issues with Revit in Windows 10 when

1) multiple monitors are in use

AND

2) Monitors are not all set to the same custom display settings (Settings > System > Display > Customize you display > Change the size of text, apps, and other items)

Windows 10 allows you to have different display settings for each monitor; previously, there was only one setting that applied to all monitors. Our development team is investigating the issue, but in the meantime, the workaround is to use the same display settings for all monitors. Here's the link to the article about this issue, which will be updated as more information becomes available.

I don't know whether you have an external monitor, so this may not apply. Please let me know! If this is not the issue, I'd like to look at a journal from your computer for further troubleshooting. Here's how to collect a good journal for troubleshooting:

Please collect journal files from the affected computer(s) using the following procedure to ensure that only the relevant information is recorded in the journal:

  1. Close Revit completely (so that a new session can be started).
  2. Reopen Revit.
  3. Reproduce the issue.
  4. Without closing Revit, collect the latest (highest-numbered) journal file. Journal file names have this format: journal.0001.txt.

Journal files in Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10:  can be found here:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\<Product name and release>\Journals

(NOTE: If you don’t see the AppData folder, you may need to check the Show Hidden Files and Folders button in the Control Panel.)

You can attach the journal to the thread, or you can PM me to send it if you prefer.

Editing the Windows registry is not likely to help. Editing the registry should only be done by someone who is knowledgeable about this process as it can have serious consequences if not done correctly.

Let me know if this information helps!

Cheers,

Judy_S
