Revit won't let me edit materials

Hey everyone,

I cant seem to get Revit to let me edit materials. When I go to edit lets say a wall, I got to edit assembly and then click on the material the next dialog box doesn't open. the same goes for if I try to go to materials via the  Manage / Materials tab as well. Does anyone know how to fix this off the top of your head?

Thanks everyone,

I've never seen that one before. Have you tried rebooting your computer?

Do you have Autodesk Materials Libraries listed under Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features? If not, do a repair.

Could also be a permissions thing. Are you logged in correctly?

Is it possible that the dialog appears outside the screen?

This might be the case if you had 2 monitors connected and moved the materials to the other screen which now is not connected anymore.

If that's the case, then play with the resolution of your monitor. If the resolution is high enough, it will make everything appear smaller on the screen and hopefully the lost dialog box should show up.

I do not have the library listed for 2017. How do I go about fixing that? I have already tried repairing and reinstalling Revit.

I have lost dialog boxes working on a single screen in the past! Trying the resolution may actually help!

Everyone thanks for your help. So far I have figured out that "The rendering features are disabled because it did not install a rendering library. Can anyone help with this? I have seen other posts and it looks confusing

I have looked through this and I do not have the MSI files for any of the material libraries. I have run repairs multiple times and it never shows up.  As far as the link you have posted this is what I see.

That's weird. The first link worked for me in two different browsers. Which browser are you using?

I dont have any of these files to uninstall or the msi files to reinstall it

3. Uninstall the libraries in the following order:

  • Autodesk Material Library Medium Resolution Image Library 2014
  • Autodesk Material Library Low Resolution Image Library 2014
  • Autodesk Material Library Base Resolution Image Library 2014
  • Autodesk Material Library 2014

4. Manually reinstall the material libraries by running the following MSI files:

  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2014\CM\MaterialLibrary2014.msi
  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2014\ILB\BaseImageLibrary2014.msi
  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2014\ILL\LowImageLibrary2014.msi
  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2014\ILM\MediumImageLibrary2014.msi
