Revit View Template

Hi all,

Is it possible to create a "working" view/floor plan, that later I can duplicate and create multiple floor plans such as: finishes, construction and so on. I know that I can duplicate the view but that doesn't do anything for annotations since they will be view specific. Also Duplicate as a Dependent won't work since if I create multiple Dependent Views from the original one I can't apply different View Template since all Dependent Views will get the same View Template.

So, is any possibility to make this happen. This is because the original floor plan will change throughout the project and I'd like to have only one working plan so that it will be easier to just apply View Templates to other Views.

Please see attached a snip of my current Project Browser Views maybe it'll help.

Thank you!

Use the "Duplicate with Detailing" option if you want to keep annotations or other view specific information when copying views.

Yes, I know that, but I also know that I'll change the original layout many times through the designing phase. So I'd like to have ready all views, construction, finishes and so on so that when I change or annotate something in the "working" view it automatically is visible in other views that have that particular annotation as visible.

Unfortunately I do not believe so. Per your initial question, the only way to do that (out of the box) would be dependent views, which you can't use with multiple view templates. However, you could create several dependent views and then make dependent when you have the design set. In either case, what you are trying to do is not directly possible and will take some work around like switching view templates when you print, or duplicating things between views.

I was searching in the internet but with no lock.

I'm no expert but this seems something you could've been able to do easily, I don't know why this can't be incorporated in Revit, is it that hard?!

There are actually a lot of reasons why it doesn't work like this if you understand more about how the Revit API works and how view specific things are registered to a single view. It would  get very messy and most likely have unintended consequences to try and link view elements like this between views, but with different view properties. I would not expect this type of behavior to be on the road map for Revit.

What are you talking about? Phasing? Do you want Views that show the Model at different stages of development?

Best Practise.

Duplicate as Dependend your view ( In this way you will not lose Linework items) > Duplicate with detailing the depended one.

Unfortunatelly this procedure must be done everytime but life saving
