Revit Underlays - underlaying a section

Revit Underlays - underlaying a section

This may have been covered before, but I thought I'd ask.  Has Autodesk considered adding an underlay feature to sections wherein one could see behind the cut plane simultaneous to the section itself?

Thanks,

hi @Anonymous ,

have you ever tried to create 2 sections view and overlay it in the sheet? that's the only way I see to solve your problem.

Good work around, but I was hoping for an option like in floor plan mode.

Not sure you understand, I want to see BEHIND the section cut.

Yes, I get.  Adjust the Far Clip to show elements behind the Cut Plane.  Use Depth Cueing to affect how those elements BEHIND the Cut Plane are represented graphically.

you can suggest that in Revit Ideas. but the way  I see that is not applicable. Underlay option in Plan is applicable because of its parallel only in one dimension (Z axis) while in section you have to create another section parallel to the first one, which is the same on my first suggestion.

It looks like the far clip offset can't be a negative number though...  Maybe I'm the slow one!  🙂

Sounds like you want to see IN FRONT OF the Section Cut Plane -- not BEHIND the Section Cut Plane.  I can only imagine the confusion reading that view.  It wouldn't make any sense.  Might make good abstract artwork though.

I think it would be very useful.  Doesn't a section CREATE a plane so to speak when it's drawn? Allowing some savvy programmer to let Revit see what's projected behind the section?

I agree with @barthbradley . please don't forget what is a section is for. Anyway, I think you need that for some special purpose May we kindly know that?

Well occasionally when drawings sections it's useful to dash in what's "in front" of the section, or behind the section plane, either for reference to to locate specific elements of a design.  Specifically in this case I was trying to locate a fireplace element, but consider how it could be used to show openings in hallways, etc.  But I imagine beyond that there probably aren't really enough use cases for this feature for the Revit team to ever integrate it.  It's not as functional as the plan mode wherein it's useful to see RCP etc...

Anyway I thought it would be an interesting feature that wouldn't theoretically be that difficult to add into the program.
